MIDI MOUTH – Playing with the TEC USB MIDI Breath And Bite Controller 2.
The TEC USB MIDI Breath And Bite Controller 2: http://tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-breath-bite-controller-2
I feel like this is a sound expression option that too many people overlook. This thing quickly became something I can’t believe I lived without. Excuse the wackiness and dad jokes, this was my first video combined with beer.

Hi, Benn. Do you know of a way to record a song condenser mic phantom powered and send the signal into a range of stomp boxes? I have seen radial EXTC stereo for line to hi-z and back. I have inserts on my interface. I would be so grateful! (Beautiful sax)

Benn, you're awesome. This was a great demo. I know that it is seven years later; but I've just bought a TEC BBT controller after wanting one for a long time. I looked for demos, and here was yours. It's my first day with it and… gosh, I'm out of breath! I thought that my lung capacity was pretty good but as a string and keys player, I've never experienced this kind of expression before. I'm looking forward to digging in and finding out what I can do. You may have found these by now and I don't think they existed seven years ago, but Acoustic Samples have some great sample-modelled horns and classical winds. They are definitely worth checking out with a breath controller.

Can you use this with ProTools 10-12? I still have the same system on my iMac as I did 13 yrs ago. If i not broke don’t fix it type of thing. And I do have Kontakt so this is perfect. Just want to make sure it works with a 32bit float and with mac before I bite the bullet on the purchase
Thanks !! And wonderful video !

Great stuff! Both of the Take On Me riffs are correct – they are played at different points in the song. Love from Norway

– I bought this controller, but I don't know how to connect it to my Tyros3. I guess, it has to be via a PC and a special App. I have none of them. How to get there a less expensive way? Maybe I'm too old (82)? Thank you for your help.

I'm on the point of purchasing the breath controller, however; not only you demonstrated its potential but also on a 'killer' jazz standard "Giant Steps", which is not for the faint hearted 😊. Well done👏👏👏👏👏

I bought one of these. Not cheap and took ages to ship to the UK, but glad I got it. Had to thank Doctor Mix for his YT video showing just how good it can sound.

SWAM stands for "Synchronous Waves Acoustic Modeling". According to their website, "the SWAM engine combines concepts of Physical Modeling and Behavioral Modeling with the Multi-Vector/Phase-Synchronous Sample-Morphing technique." It is NOT the same as the sample modeling technique used in many other products. Their approach allows the expressive information to be incorporated into the mathematical model that produces the sound. This allows for much more realism and nuance than sample modeling which typically includes vast libraries of actual instrument sound samples. Performer expression information is used to index into the library to retrieve samples that correspond to dynamics associated with the performance. Because sample modeling only has a fixed number of samples, it can be less fluid and less realistic as the multidimensional expressiveness information dynamically changes throughout the performance. Swam gives you tools to help map your MIDI device expression info into their instruments, but to do it well can be a non-trivial exercise.

Haha I've had the same quandary about the Take On Me riff, I think they might possibly be alternating between the two. Anyway, great video, thank you!

I came here for the breath controller demo. Commented just to say that I hadn't listened to Kettel in years — I absolutely loved Volleyed Iron back in college. Thanks for reminding me about some great music =)

My TEC controller just arrived today. I’ll preface by saying I’m completely new to midi. I’ve got 20 years experience playing classical violin, including professionally in a symphony for about 5 years. I saw someone using the TEC controller with Audio Modeling instruments and I was sold. I’ll admit, half of me hates it because orchestral instruments are the hardest to learn and play well. It takes literal decades to become proficient, and even longer to think about being able to claim mastery. Now I can pick up a keyboard, TEC controller, and my iPad and make it sound like I’ve got 10 years experience playing trumpet, despite never having used one. The limiting factor for me is my lack of skill with a keyboard, which I will hopefully be mitigating as I just ordered an open box example of the fantastic You Rock midi guitar. The last thing I’m waiting on is for Audio Modeling to release their woodwind instruments on iPad!

Isn't the aftertouch key for that? I know it doesn't work like a breath controller, but it shouldn't work like that? And why can't we use the Modulation wheel for that?

Hard to imagine that every DAW user doesn't have one of these. I'm getting one, in part of this vid. Thanks man.

Hey benn, recently discovered your channel and learning a lot from your videos. Would you suggest ExpressiveE Touche or TEC Breath Controller? which do you think is better for a person who has never played a wind instrument in his life.

I only just realized this thing existed so to find review by someone I hold in such high regard is simply perfect! Thanks a lot Benn. Now does it work just as well with other libraries as the SWAM / Samplemodeling stuff?

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. I'm curious if you've had a chance to demo the Hornberg HB1 and how you think it compares to the TEC.

At 8:25 I think the sound needed a little filtering. Too tinny sharp to the ears. But, I understand you're basically experimenting a bit while also demo-ing. if understood correctly.
