It's interesting because I had a phase earlier this year when I listened to the JB podcast, and I formed the same opinion of the Ish character. So glad it wasn't just me. I stopped watching after a couple of months but enjoyed it for a short while.

The Bellichick analogy is kind of a “Hot Take” but the more I thought about it, you may have some validity to the GOAT argument. I still think he’s probably the GOAT but to call him the undisputed GOAT is reckless. For me looking at his time as the DC for the GIANTS, the HC of the dysfunctional BROWNS and then his success with the Patriots shows a “one of a kind” coaching talent, and brilliant strategist. Not to mention his coaching tree at one point included the GOAT of College football.

I disagree with the Brady vs Belichek analysis

No one important is listening to Marc or any other dude that's just talking. How is this a killing spree if no one important is listening? Is anything getting better because after four hundred years of talking how does 2025 look any different?

You’ll probably never see this bc I’m months late to this vid, but you’re WAYYY off on that Belichick take. He’s inarguably one of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history. If you need any of his “student of the game” bonafides just watch his inclusion in the NFL all-time top 100 special they did almost ten years ago and just listen to him gush about the greats like Ed Reed and Lawrence Taylor and even some deeper cuts I’ve never heard of. He’d rave about their playing careers but also cite specific plays that were decades old that embodied that greatness. There’s no debate he knows his stuff.

I’m fine with you giving Andy Reid his flowers, but it’s a little ironic he was the exact guy you accused Bill of being before he was gifted Patrick Mahomes who may one day rival Brady in his greatness. Reid won a lot but he never reached the heights Bill did up until he went on this winning streak with Patrick. Bill at least won a ring long before Brady as a DC with the Giants.

Your take also suffers from some revisionist history. Brady was not this undisputed GOAT level QB when he entered the league. In fact, it was Bill’s defense that carried them to those early SBs as Brady gained his footing. Bill’s magnum opus may have been holding “The Greatest Show on Turf” Rams (probably one of the best offensive units in league history) to a pedestrian 17 points in their first SB victory. He mirrored that success decades later when he held Sean Mcvay’s Rams to just 3 points while prime Brady could only get 13.

Bill’s legacy will be interesting because you’re right that he has done a lot to tarnish it since his split from Brady. Girlfriend drama aside, I think his biggest deficiencies were twofold. One, the league radically changed the way games were officiated, giving offenses so many more advantages than defense. I’m not saying it’s impossible in the modern league, but I think there’s a reason we don’t see teams like the 2000 Ravens and the 2015 Broncos succeed in the way they once did. Second, Bill accumulated way too much power in New England and his role as the GM greatly undermined his talent as a head coach. While he’s one of the greatest coaches of all time, he was at best an average GM throughout and went on an awful cold streak drafting which culminated in one of the worst free agency cycles in recent memory during the 2021 offseason where desperately tried to fill roster holes because the team was short on talent. Despite all that, he remind the sharpest defensive mind in the league up until the day he parted with New England.

Lastly I’ll say that Bill’s legacy will also be remembered for its intangible greatness as well. Similar to Nick Saban, he was an expert on building a winning culture and getting a team of 53 to completely buy in. “The Patriot Way” may seem a little cheesy and pretentious, but it had real impact on their success. In a sport that’s dependent on consistency and preparation, Bill’s teams never wavered. Those distractions and mental errors that hold most teams back largely weren’t present in NE and I think Bill should get credit for that.

Again idk if you’ll ever read this or make it this far, but I appreciate the channel and the work you do. Your content always challenges me to think and sometimes reflect more than I’m ready for lol, but I still appreciate it nonetheless. If I could add one thing too, I think Lamar Jackson could make an excellent B Sides video. I think he’s at the epicenter of a radical shift in the QB position, but also a change in the visibility of the black athlete. I think there’s an interesting class distinction between him and a Jalen Hurts even despite them both being black QBs that have traditionally been treated as a monolith. Lamar’s lack of an agent has allowed for a lot of unfiltered and often times negative feedback about him in the media and I’ve always wondered how much his career would play out differently if any aspect of his identity were different. I don’t think we’ve seen a QB like him before.
