Jenny Slate | Unafraid of Sadness | Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out Podcast
The great Jenny Slate joins Mike this week for a wide-ranging conversation about getting hypnotised after being fired from SNL, a graduation speech Jenny gave to a class of one person, and making art to feel less lonely. Plus, jokes and stories about seeing your friends naked, improv classes for the elderly, and the time Jenny’s faked case of appendicitis went too far.

Love this conversation. Mike has kind and interesting friends and I’m glad we get to sit in on the introspective discussions. …..and now I want to watch Jenny shows.

"I can't do that because I don't want to." 😂 I agreed, that would be great on a t-shirt, but then I sad it out loud & realized Jenny's tone,, spacing & timing of those words will be hard to convey on a t-shirt.

What a lovely conversation 💗
Jenny is such a unique and endearing person.
What she did for that graduating student Gwen is AWESOME⭐
Also, her hilarious impersonation of those two elderly ladies had me wanting to hear more 😁
THANK YOU for contributing to @NPR 💕

Why did Mike Birbiglia cross the road?
-To hear what he was whispering about.

I don't think Jenny failed at SNL. She was delightful to watch.

I really enjoy Jenny's softer and intospective side, equally as much as her comedic one. It was cool to see both during this episode. The Sunlit Night is such a gentle but vivid story and she's fantastic in it, and kind of the first time I saw her anew. I highly recommend it if you like indie movies. This was a really lovely talk between friends and I feel like they both have such a unique way of telling stories, but in a similarly intimate way. Makes for good conversation. Thanks for another one, this was fun.💗✨

One of my all time favorite shows I stumbled into was Jenny Slate is Dead (or something like that);at UCB, under the Gristedes. The whole concept of a comedy show set as a tongue in cheek funeral and memorial, and the pre recorded bits.. it was just brilliant and perspective changing!

Wow her words in the intro are profoundly put, it hit me in the gut and it’s exactly how I feel ❤

I remember seeing Jenny Slate for the first time on TV years ago. And I thought, "Man I'd love to really get all in this woman." Like a phone charger- just stay plugged in.

Me, a grad student, watching this while writing a sad story because I think it will be so edgy and truthful in an unapologetic way. Cliche sinks in. Time to start over.

I love Jen and Mike but I’m not sure what this convo is about. I feel like I walked into the middle of a discussion and was never told the topic.

The John Ralphio bit was my favorite on a show absolutely teeming with awesome bits, and Jenny's Mona -Lisa enhanced it perfectly. Truly an amazing performer and comic. Loved this ep.
