I love the assumptions here. I was 'support staff' at 3 different places and the only time I ever received any tip was if someone explicitly handed me money. Yeah and being a 'rush hour' employee meant I often only had 2 or 3 hour shifts at minimum wage so after gas and such was accounted for I was making under 15 dollars a day. But hey that was nearly 2 decades ago but still.

As a customer I think tip pooling is incredibly stupid. Look I already dislike the fact that servers rely on us for their money rather than their employers, but I’m still happy to tip MY SERVER cause they do provide me a service. The idea of the money I am literally handing over to the server for them has to be pooled or shared to others who I’ve never seen is utterly ridiculous.

    Simply my opinion.

that's very interesting in 2018 2019 and 2020 before things close down for covid. I had friends that work in BOH in upstate New York and they got tipped out by the bartenders and servers. I thought it was kind of strange but evidently they changed the law since then so now what they were doing in theory might be legal very interesting

I've worked in restaurants most of my life, but I'm not currently at one. I currently work as a dealer at a casino. I live and work in WNY. Our minimum wage is (I believe) $15/hr here. Most people don't know this, but I am a tipped employee. I make $10/hr plus tips and we tip pool. So, how it works out for us is they work the tips out based on your shift and how many hours you've worked. So if one shift on one day makes $5,000, only that shift for that day splits those tips. But, we do not get tipped out daily. Our tips go into our paychecks and they are taxed, so we don't have to claim them come tax time. Also, they have a system where I don't make under $25/hr. I work 4 – 8 hour shifts a week and we have a 20 minute break every hour. It's all paid. So, at the end of a 4 day week, after taxes, I make between $800 – 1,000. It's honestly the best job I've ever had.

When I got into the resturaunt industry in tn I was shocked when my coworkers told me what they make just off of hourly pay. I was a hostess so literally made 6x what they made just based off hourly. (I no longer work there tho)

Sucks to be Americans. Why can't you just get normal wages like in other countries? The tips should be your extra income because the customer likes your service. The system is very oppressing. I'd love it if I were the employer. 💯%

This video gave me the headcanon that the in-universe Drew went on to become a PR Manager for Bistro Huddy or something, since we don't see him as a server anymore.

I've always worked back of the house. In Pennsylvania I've been tipped three times. A "this is for the cook, it's almost as good as my mom's" type pf situation. I assumed it was ok since a customer was giving a tip directly to me and not into a pool.

I knew the place i worked for in '21 was shady…..
Servers were $2.83/hr… Had to tip pool at the end of each shift… And right before i left i found out that the bussers we were pooling for never saw our contribution 😡
Amd i was a closer (10pm) who had to tip out the same % as people who left at 7… Even though the busser left @8 and i had 2 hours of bussing my own tables+ sweeping and mopping my section after closing

it’s crazy how it’s illegal that managers can’t take tips and mine takes tips from severs AND the ice cream parlor we have if she “helped a bunch”

Isn't the point of tipping to help cover the wage of those not making minimum wage? If so, why are they still tipping in California if they're required to be paid minimum wage?
