Hey FD,
I don't know if this helps, but I worked on this movie and I can tell you that most of the problems come from the director Justin Tipping. When we were shooting and ending wasn't even written and they wanted us (the locations department) to find a space that he could frame the ending around. Essentially the ending changed twice due to tipping and most of the footage we shot ended up in the movie

Just saw it for the first time today. Maybe I'm just too autistic or something but I really enjoyed this movie. The cinematography and dialogue in the earliest areas give quite a bit away about the ending if you had a eye for detail.
It definitely doesn't deserve the low rating it gets. Not perfect, but definitely not a 3 or a 5 out of 10 like most people claim. Solid 7 at the bare minimum

Watched it, enjoyed for the most part but plenty of production choices felt off. Jumped on IMDB/Wikipedia to learn about the cast & crew. Rewind and watched again couple days later to scratch an itch in my mind, and more favorable opinion after repeat viewing. The acting was better, dialog that originally fell flat was expected, paid more attention to the cinematography, color palette choices. Overall 2nd viewing the film got better but completely agree this needs a legitimate directors cut cause F* them execs that chop everything off at the knees.

There's something really compelling in the idea of sports and horror as a fusion: athletes are simultaneously idolised and utterly disposable, to an even greater extent than entertainers, at yet we've had a bunch of horror media in part about the disposability of working in entertainment (The Beauty, The Substance, Black Swan) and yet sports lags significantly behind. I do wonder if it has something to do with the fact that the victims in those aforementioned stories are almost always white women, who fit more naturally into a 'victim' role as perceived by society than athletes, who are typically physically imposing, male and black or hispanic: big studios see it as easier to make a white woman vulnerable and sympathetic than a black man.

Agreed on the rushed ending. I was so excited for this movie when it was announced, and when I finally got to watch it I was so disappointed. The pacing was terrible at the end. Shrinking attention spans and studios’ insistence on catering to it is killing films, I’m noticing a lot of the newer movies I’ve watched have the same problem. This movie had so much potential.

i’ve been holding off watching HIM til it came to streaming because i heard mixed reviews. it is a mess of a movie but the actors give great performances, i hope tyriq withers can bounce back from the trash that was this movie and i know what you did last summer. but also cant go wrong with serious Marlon Wayans, he killed it.

This movie was terrible and all you folks into conspiracy theories are the reason this movie sucks. Most of you never played sports so you just put all your jealousy into this bs. It shows by how most of you think this is how the NFL works

Also last comment… You're right, 90 minutes is short. When watching the movie, it felt like it was building up similarly to longer horror movies (think midsommar). But then I paused and noticed, there are only 30 minutes left?
I was confused how 30 minutes would tie everything up. Was that enough time?
And truly, it wasn't. The movie knew it wanted to do more but it was forced to finish earlier…
Valid point about movies for 90 or 180 minutes having the same cost. Seems like they were more concerned about the finances than the quality.
Unfortunate. There was potential. It was all there until the last 30 minutes.

It's so funny that you had the same experience as me, being hooked to the seat for an hour (I made a previous comment about this), but then being confused after the ending…
Seems like the movie built a strong foundation but ruined it at the end with some strange nonsense at the end. The movie all seemed logical, realistic and believable until the end just brought up some voodoo magic and made us "feel good" by killing everybody?
Not a good way to end a movie which built up slowly and patiently on a character to throw it all away so quickly with a nonsense ending.

I was disappointed… I was hooked to the movie and took a pause 30 minutes before the ending.
Thought it was really fun.
Then I finished the movie and realized why the critics were disappointed… Because so was I.
There was so much potential. So much.

6:43 Mike Tyson has said something similar about no longer being able to box the way he used to or get his body in the condition only a man in his early 20s can. He also came to tears and said he felt like a bitch; that he basically used to be a warrior and now he felt like nothing. As a society we don't prepare men for the natural decline of the human body and loss of strength that even healthy men will suffer. This feeling of loss is multiplied by magnitudes for men like Jordan and Tyson who were not only in their personal physical prime, but were among the most physically superior humans on the planet. These men both have families and financial security, but they both seem to be fundamentally missing something.
