Gorillaz – The Now Now (QUICK ALBUM REVIEW/REACTION)

I just wish Damon Albarn sampled more Vine memes like he did with the Vince Staples song on Humanz. Is that too much to ask?

Do you agree? Disagree? Have a suggestion for what I should review? Let me know in the comments!

The Now Now is the sixth studio album from British cartoon band Gorillaz, which is a collaboration between Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The album was preceded by the singles “Humility (ft. George Benson),” “Lake Zurich,” “Sorcererz,” “Fire Flies,” and “Hollywood.” It follows the band’s previous album Humanz, along with years of successful singles like “Dare,” Stylo,” and of course, “Feel Good, Inc.”

Am I the only one who liked Humanz? Maybe I am biased because the album came a few month After I started to listen Gorillaz but still. It was a party and I loved to be there. But I found the Now now boring even if they were some cool track.
Also, most song of the album have the same key. It Can Make an album more Boring
(exception would be A Sky of Honey from Kate Bush or L'autre from Mylène Farmer (she's like a poetic and dark french équivalent of Madonna and if you don't know her music vidéo or her live, you're missing something Big)

I've honestly grown out so much out of Gorillaz.
Demon Days used to be one of my favorite albums and now I don't really care about it anymore.
The only songs I still listen to from them nowadays is Lake Zurich, Magic City, Andromeda and Empire Ants.
So yeah, The Now Now has the most out of the albums, so it wins for me… I guess?
I have no idea anymore, I'm not even qualified to give an opinion.
And there was also never a point where I liked Plastic Beach, even though it seems to be the fan favorite.
Most of their music honestly just feels straight up cheap to me.
I don't know what it is, listening to stuff from Demon Days… it doesn't even sound like alt rock.
Something is just off about it, just kind artificial, which is probably why the only songs from them that I still listen to are straight up electronic, rather than weird sounding rock.
Maybe that is intentional, considering they're a virtual band, but it certainly no longer works for me.
I was also never a fan of rap and hip hop, and since it's sorta been dominant in Gorillaz, maybe it's just best if I stick to Blur if I want to listen to Damon Albarn.

I very much disagree. Humanz depressed everyone and is just tough to listen to. I can't listen to that album on repeat without removing AT LEAST 3 songs. The Now Now's fresh and happy beats feel almost like an apology for their worst album by far Humanz. I like The Now Now a lot.

Yeah, this thing isn’t that great. Just a generic electropop record that doesn’t do much to hold my attention. I think it’s better than Humanz, but only because it shorter and actually feels somewhat like a Gorillaz project and not Damon putting a bunch of artists he likes all together in a bloated mess.

    5/10

I personally really liked The Now Now, but then again I am one of those die hard Gorillaz fans. I still enjoy this record because of some of the interesting tracks like Souk Eye and Kansas. Those I felt really were something special in their own right.
