Charlie Overman, “Capps” and “Gentle Understandings,” // GemsOnVHS™
My friend Cole Chaney shot me a text once upon time. “You’ve got to check this guy out” was the message. The guy to check out in question? That was this guy, Charlie Overman. As soon as I spun up the songs, I knew I wanted to meet Charlie. Apparently he has never heard of Adam Carroll, my favorite songwriter of all time, but that was the first person I thought of when I heard these well written, robustly literate songs. Stories, tales and parables from Charlie’s life, brought into a life of their own, with a bit of nice guitar sprinkled in for taste.
I was on my way to that stuck-in-the-mid-2000s time warp that is Ohio to meet Jordan Smart when I decided to stop in Lexington (or was it Louisville?) to meet Mr. Overman. He invited me into his one room casa to record a few tunes, talk about songwriting and enjoy a cup of water. What a guy.

Man, you find the best hidden gems. Especially the Capps song is incredible.
You really really need to find the singer songwriter Ian Noe, hes notoriously reclusive and enigmatic. After c19, him and his career seemed to have fallen off the face of the map. He had such momentum before. Eastern Kentucky guy, incredible song writer and finger picker
