If you had to listen to a song once while coming up with the drum parts in your head, would you be able to play it with no hiccups from start to finish?

We gave Gil Sharone a drumless track he’d never heard before (“Funky Rastafari”, available in Drumeo Edge) so he could listen to it, write drums for it, and play through it – within minutes.

As you watch him go through the process of learning music, you’ll see how Gil gets ready for a studio session or when he’s asked to fill in for a band. You’ll also realize how quickly he’s able to do it – like learning an entire album on a plane).

During his listen-through, watch how Gil adds his notes and rough form for each section on a piece of paper in realtime. He also doesn’t write down any beats or ideas, and this seems to work for him!

I first heard of him 20 years ago. And i was impressed how versatile he was. He was able able to play speed metal goth etc… as good as reggae music, not gooffy ass reggae but real jamaican reggae style and culture that he fully embraced. I love that open mindness.
    Shout out to my man✊🏽

how does DW make such amazing sounding drums? whether it is wood or acrylic every DW kit I've seen played in videos lately no matter what channel all sound uniquely better than say a pearl or tama

not what i'd call perfect, he got lost after the organ fill and had to stop completely to find the beat again, and still adjusted the wrong direction and ended up 2/4 behind on the whole bar, which was distinctly different than the rest of the rhythm. not bad for hearing once and first take, but words matter, and yall said perfect.

Gil's work with Stolen Babies and Dillinger Escape Plan has always been top level stuff, watching him do something like this was so cool. What an absolute Pro.
