Well then by that logic doing a comedy show in the USA would be deplorable. To act like these middle Eastern countries are sm worse than us due to social issues even tho usa is like the most harmful government in the world is juat a bit weird.

I’m like why we looking at comedians for being truth tellers when like it was said earlier in the video they bullshit for a living for the laughs?

I agree with everything you’re saying, I just think we need to expand this perspective to the US, as I don’t see anything that Saudi Arabia does as any different than what the US does, if anything, the Saudis are just an extension of Western colonialism, as everything they do impacts the US positively.

To clarify, this isn’t a defense of the Saudi gov, I grew up in Jordan where it was very well known who the Saudis are, I know people impacted by them personally, but we also knew that they are no different than America, and act as an arm of their imperialist projects in the ME, Asia, and Africa.

I have been struggling the last few years to reconcile the Chappelle I grew up with who is highly attuned to black minority struggles with the man he has become who has unabashedly been punching down.. to reconcile the man who walked away from a fortune because of the harm he believed it was doing to his community with the sellout I see today. I had concluded that he is an intelligent and talented man with a huge blind-spot who has become a victim of his own celebrity. That these were yin and yangs of his personality.

But I think the 2 are NOT opposite halves of a whole. I think they might be fully reconcilable, stemming from the same center.

After re-watching his interview with Oprah, his realization about how his jokes could be misinterpreted to harm the black community started with him feeling that HE was being laughed at for the first time. That is, his realization didn't stem from an understanding of minority struggles or empathy, but from his own ego. This is completely consistent with the man who now puts wealth above all, who continues to punch down solely because he is being criticized and prioritizes defending himself, regardless of the harm that either of these actions may cause.

I am now wondering if his insight into minority struggles was and always has been the byproduct of a clever ego needing to defend itself. Food for thought.

You keep moving along, talking the whole time. You do that, you don't go beyond the surface level, and you're picking your punches.

Thank you for highlighting that logical fallacy about the murdered journalist. It was an insult to his audiences’ intelligence, not a mic drop moment.

I think the criticism truly shocked him. He was a hero for walking away from Chappell show and now we’re watching Dave scramble to fix it making it worse every time he says anything. Just stop. Get back to brothers on a plane.

Imagine if he had pretended to dance for those cruel monsters and absolutely used the opportunity to speak the truth about the Saudi.
But nope not only does Dave have a greedy soul he has a cowardly one.

He aint got it no more, The age of spin-Sticks, and stones (along with equanimity) was a home run, but ever since then he's just been leaning into controversy to compensate for not having any new material, maybe he actually does need the money, but it still don't make it right, sad to see.

I'm sure it all happened after than art school appearance back in 2017? When he assumed people are gonna praise him for acting "tolerant" towards queer artists. He also made some points about how brutal sex work can be towards women but his fans laughed like "omg being a pimp seems so fun" which he genuinely seemed not ok with.

No one talking about the countless boxing events taking place in Saudi Arabia and the countless celebrities who get the red carpet and glaze the leaders like they have a gun to their heads is………. Interesting

3:35 so just to be clear, you get to decide which of Dave’s jokes are actually jokes, and which ones are confessions? Damn bro that’s an amazing skill you have developed

Starting to think his white guy writer was behind everything he’s done that was funny on the show Neal Brennan. He came up with everything
