It’s been talked about for a while (in fact I covered this 6 years ago), but a lot of things have been said about the potential collapse of the Atlantic Gulf Stream, also known as the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC. This global current that keeps Europe and North America (but especially Europe) from being covered in ice is increasingly under threat of slowing or even stopping. The results would be catastrophic.

So you have an episode about carbon emissions destroying the climate and you live in texas? I mean glass houses and all that, be the change you want to see, because you are in one of the couple of places accelerating all of this. I am guessing you live in a nice little single family neighborhood with great freeway access and long drives everywhere right?

Still waiting for someone to tell me what happened to global cooling in the 1970's. We would be starving by 2000's because of cooling and crop harvest failure. Still waiting. Long time to wait.😂

I keep telling climate deniers that climate change could very well cause the scenario from “The Day After Tomorrow” to occur and that it could cause a worsening of the ice age. Climate scientists have been very upfront about the fact that we don’t exactly know what will happen, but it won’t be good regardless.

The other thing I keep telling them is that the greatest trick the oil companies have ever pulled is making going green out to be “only” about climate change. They don’t seem to get that they’re helping oil companies create energy monopolies that will see us paying ever higher prices for oil and gas and that it puts us under the boot heels of countries like Russia and Saudi Arabia. They need to realize that the climate is only one of numerous reasons to develop green technologies.

World will simply recenter itself around China, which… it's already in the process of doing anyway. Only a couple of hundred years ago, Europe was in the dark ages, America a few bronze age tribes, and center of civilization was out east. That was the norm for thousands of years. The world we live in the past 2 hundred years was the anomaly, which is already ending, climate change or not.

I love the logic "It takes a 1000 years for the water to circulate, We changed the salt from melting it in the last few 100 years from Pollution!!! (Not considering the minor ice age we naturally came out of recently.)" Real thought out.

AMOC, PMOC, Sea level rise, etc etc … The real danger is that:
Increased ocean acidity killing crustaceans and zoo plankton; heat waves, artic blasts, droughts, floods, longer summers and shorter winters are all devastating wildlife lifecycles.
This means We will face a serious collapse of the food web in 50-250 years. Regardless of sea level rise or desertification of regions. THAT is the real immediate threat of the warming globe changing regional climates.

There is evidence that is collapsed in the past.
The distant past before humans were even around

It might be a natural cycle that brings on ice ages and has been happening for billions of years

    Which is even scarier

It’s been hot as crap all winter. Still is in the west. And the east gets typical winter weather for two weeks, then all of sudden, it’s ice age scenarios. The oil companies are loving this. It will gets easier too as carbon levels rise, as higher concentrations of CO2 make you stupid, regardless of oxygen levels.

We are still in a interglacial period after all, if anything these models just point to a continuation of the Quaternary ice age we've been in for 3 million years.

Lets just remember the 'best' scientists made models to price the risk of subprime mortgages and many people ate sh t as a direct result of their wisdom in 2008.

And these were people very much interested in getting it right… and were also working with a 18month to 5 year prediction window. Climate scientists have a century long prediction window and much less interest in getting it right.

Well, didn’t the same scientists predicting doom now also predict there would be no polar ice in 5 years back in 2014 or 2015 using obviously faulty models and/or data? I want to be able to believe they know what they are talking about but the skeptic in me thinks the only thing they learned is that doom predictions get attention, but it’s better to say the world will end AFTER we are all long gone so no one can attack their credibility like I did in my first sentence. I will remain cautiously optimistic while doing what I can for the environment.

The music was way too loud at some points for me and made it hard for me to focus on what you were saying. Maybe due to being tired, but definitely noticeable.

this reminds me of something they started saying in the sixties and said we only had 10 years to live before the earth would boil us alive /good thing we have 10 years till the amoc collapses i was getting worried
