Historically, technology has always moved faster than the law. In the UK, prior to the 1990 Computer Misuse act, hackers were charged under the 1968 Theft Act, which includes a provision to prosecute people for causing someone else to use electricity without their permission. Until there is proper law (which tends to take far too long), prosecution will require imaginative lawyers to find new uses for existing legislation. Hopefully, someone will find something.

Is AI only being used in such a disgusting way to make images of women, or is it being used to do the same with men? As a teenage boy is going to be just as harmed if images of them are released to their school, with the added problem that over here in the UK they could end up on the sexual offender list. We had a story of this happening to one lad, and if he had been just a few months older the girls involved would have been charged for releasing such images. But as he was under the age that these laws cover, he instead ended up in court and on the list for the rest of his life. Is this something that could happen in the US?

It's sad to see so few people in our government taking action against X. In the UK and most countries, unlike in the US, spreading hate, inciting violence and circulating child p**n are all illegal. And there many allegations that X has been involved in all of these, it's great to hear this MP take them on but, where has the PM and the "Labour" party in general been when all of this has been going on? It should have been shut down over a year ago.

Its interesting what she says about single black woman. Its not just an American thing. All of the black kids I grew up with, with the exception of my best friend had absent fathers. They were all raised by single women. That's in Canada. I live in Ireland now and I've got a friend originally from Zimbabwe. She says that the men don't stick around and she's floored by these Irish men that show a general interest in their children. She's got two boys by two different men and neither father is present. I just wonder if that's one of the things that have been taught through generations? I don't know, I'm not black nor do I want to assume anything but I've noticed that it's not just an American problem.

I was adopted at birth, to parents who went the "private adoption" route because they were too old (my father was 53 and my mother was 44 when I was adopted). Cue the hearts and flowers of a happy home. My father died when I was 7, so there went the nuclear family. My mother was VERY depressed after his death and kind of gave up on being our mother (I say "our" because my older brother, also adopted, was equally neglected). We weren't "Lord of the Flies" but my brother was exceedingly abusive to me and never did my mother interfere. My mom was not a terrible mother–she was amazing in so many things, but she really wasn't cut out to be a mother. She clearly preferred my brother who was gifted academically and physically (could play any sport), had perfect pitch, and was aligned with my father in terms of an interest in engineering and science. I was a foreign language nerd, had a weight problem, was very shy in large part to my hearing impairment. Families that may start out "nuclear" often don't end up that way, with death, divorce, abandonment. And adoption is not always the Hallmark Channel depiction. Families are complicated. They need access to resources, to adequate nutrition, to mental health alliances. Anyway, my two cents from your great discussion.
