Atsuko Okatsuka | The Dizzy Duo | Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out
Atsuko Okatsuka returns for her fourth Working It Out episode. Mike and Atsuko trace their friendship from Atsuko’s first appearance on the podcast, to opening for Mike at the Chicago Theatre, to touring with Mike across the country. Through it all, Mike and Atsuko (and Atsuko’s husband and creative collaborator Ryan Harper Gray) became close friends and trusted comedy confidants. Now they discuss the delicate process of turning domestic drama into comedy, like Atsuko’s story essentially being kidnapped by her grandmother as a child, and more recently, the time when Atsuko realized she’d never done the laundry at home, and how her husband encouraged her to make it into a bit.

I also love your hair and sense of fashion so original, classy and sleek. I wish I can have short hair but chubby face need certain hair styles. I was really happiest living in California. I think Californians are welcoming, open minded and fun people. I miss my friends there.

Dizzy piñata boy … endearing description of Birbigs! Fits adjacent to the fun of having kids toys drop onto stage in one of his specials. He was kinda tripping all over them! Joyful & playful!🎉🎉🎉

Are you dizzy or just always a kid in search of candy. Like you know the candy is there and you are always on a swivel scanning the horizon making sure you don’t miss it.

I agree Mike looks like a kid who just got spun before the pinata. But also, the name of that state could be 'birbiglia' lol 😊

Atsuko! I saw you in Sydney and it did feel “worse” (don’t get me wrong…I had a lovely time, but something definitely felt “off”). So glad to hear you talk about it. The sticker I bought “Atsuko is my friend” is really meaningful to me as an adult without friendships. You’re fantastic 💜

‘Mike “Vertigo Adjacent” Birbiglia

Is not allowed? Huh??

You know that drinking game, where you have to put your head on a baseball bat and spin around, before you run to the next beer? That's what Mike looks like.

I know this is low hanging fruit, but maybe reference a funny body part? Like instead of the brain, you can’t use your dick, or your bowels… these are also true and a little less dark than not being able to use your brain. Especially when the man was a neurologist. The fact that he can’t use his brain is super sad and dark.
