For the science communicators, I also wanna point out Kyle Hill, he has done a lot of great science videos, but I think his nuclear series stands out, I believe he started the Demon Core meme by accident.

I have synesthesia, especially crossing visuals and sounds or physical feelings – and when it comes to the “coolness” of experiencing it, I was shocked when I watched a PBS Nova documentary about it as a teenager and learned other people don’t have the same experience! It’s always been so incredibly normal for me to say, match abstract concepts with colors, hear colors and shapes, “see” in my mind’s eye quite vivid colors and feel textures and sensations associated with numbers, that I thought that was how everyone interacted with the world. It’s never been psychedelic or anything for me. The number “1” is just orange. My old home phone number is shades of yellow, orange, and bright green, and feels like faint pins and needles at the base of my palms.

I’ve always been really good at remembering numbers and number sequences, very specific sounds, and visual patterns. By the time I was in college I leaned into my synesthesia for studying: remember all of the associations with a concept, number, or the sound of a word, and conjure those up for memorization-style tests, since they were basically encoded in redundant, multi-modal storage banks. If I couldn’t remember the actual answer, I could remember the colors and patterns associated with the sensory experience of learning it, and get from there to the major vowel sounds in the word – then I’ve got a major hint to the answer. Reading notes out loud and drawing diagrams, even diagrams that had very little to do with the actual subject, worked as brilliant memory aids. I imagine they do for people without synesthesia, as well.

But to answer your question: synesthesia feels to me like just another cool tool I can use to process and organize information. I’m a designer and a historian now, so my career fields are pretty closely related to those abilities, too.

With any luck, the people, institutions, and companies responsible for the covid fiasco will be held accountable and brought to heal before the next pandemic.
The popukation is sick and tired of lies, false data and manipulation.
The government and institutions are supposed to work for the people not the corporations.

When we wake up, as a nation, and remember what journalistic integrity actually looked like (it wasn't long ago when we still had it), perhaps we'll stop consuming opinions and pretending they're facts.

Next pandemic will be extremely politicized. They got a lot of power and money from Covid , the rich people got so much richer , and they realized they can charge more for everything and we would pay for it. They also spouted a bunch of fake medical shit. Isolate the healthy ones ? Wear mask even if you are not sick ? Etc.

I have synesthesia, my most common manifestation is auditory-tactile so I can physically feel music certain notes and melody’s create strong riveting sensations of warmth, butterflies, and tingling it will even cause me to cry sometimes from it but not sadness, also smell and memory are strongly connected and sometimes I can like smell or taste a vibe if that makes sense? Like I’ll smell something and be like oh this smells like the memory of my grandpas boat but not just remembering what my grandpas boat smells like the smell like is the memory if that makes sense

i think the greatest existential threat is social media induced attention disorders tbh. when the younger generation grows up, their entire way of processing information will be different and overall, probably more mediocre as a result. they dont have the same sensory relations as they would have with traditional learning methods, the time spent on each subject is shortened, and that will cause massive issues in the future. and i dont think technology will be able to automize fast enough to override that result. and also, not even on an economy or societal level, but an interpersonal level, our communication methods are so much more shallow than the past. we as a species are becoming more insular as we all spend more time in the virtual with algortihmically enhanced media. thats more scary to me than most things because the knock on effects that will happen as result is so great.

Huhh… I've straight up noticed that I see flashes of light when I hear more abrupt sounds (like a pop or a crack) at night when I'm getting ready to go to sleep. That's interesting

I’m not risking my life again. I’m a nurse. I’m supposed to be a hero. Hero means lied to about paying off student loans and I still get treated like oh you’re just a nurse. Just saying.

The U.S. government handled the COVID pandemic very poorly. It was as if they were allowing the poor and aged die unassisted and the pandemic deniers….insane.

Use white vinegar in the fabric softener slot of your washing machine when you're doing a load of fleecey or sherpa blankets or clothes. These materials hang on to the laundry soap really well and over time that contributes to them getting less soft way faster. The vinegar strips the soap out a lot better than just water does.

I was disappointed by the vaguely centrist tangent. I don't really think you're a centrist and probably have a good sense of right and wrong but the way it was presented made it seem like there isn't /a/ truth and /a/ right and wrong in this situation and there is, one side is insane and it's not productive to pretend they aren't or that we should work with them in good faith when they operate in bad faith, in fact I think attempting that last bit is part of how we got here and part of how we're failing to put up an effective resistance.

The nonstop in-your-face troublemakers currently rioting in Minneapolis were probably the same imbeciles bitching and glaring at people for not wearing masks during the pandemic.

One thing people did NOT learn from the last pandemic is to stay home when they're sick or wear a mask in public if they're sick and cannot stay home/ work from home. For those of us who were affected by long Covid, weakened immune systems would be relieved if everyone else would be considerate of their fellow humans and follow those simple principles…

I have synesthesia and 15 years ago, when I realized not everyone was like me, there was zero info on the internet about it. I did an annual google search and have been delighted to see more people talking about it! (I hear in color for whoever is interested: songs, for example, have shapes and patterns.)

3:20 This is the crux issue that is why a pandemic gets politicized. You can't force people to do something medically, you can recommend and advise and such, but when you FORCE it via government intervention, that will always beget a politicization because the government is not well known for GIVING BACK power that it gets.
