The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) start-up Archer Aviation was recently accused of misleading investors. The accusations come from the short-selling firm Culper Research.

    For ordinary turbine jets everyone moves over from 4 to 2 engines. Because of maintenance cost per engine. This one has 12 electric motors. It's ridiculous.

    I just feel like calling a airline "Archer" anything doesn't inspire confidence. Arrows don't land, they nosedive into the ground. I don't want my flight associated with that.

    eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) drones are actively being developed and deployed in China, with a focus on commercial passenger flights and cargo delivery. China is leading the way in autonomous eVTOL operations, with companies like EHang already operating commercial passenger flights in designated areas , so why is no work in the US ???

    In my personal opinion, and I am no professional, I simply look at things in what I call a " logical perspective ", but I find Kathy Wood as an overrated investment leader with a sub par track record from what I have read on the internet. What I know and say is what I read. So like the old saying goes, if it looks like a duck. Quacks like a duck. It's probably a duck.

    Listen, I was a commercial pilot and worked at a 141 flight school. A part 135 air taxi trains under part 135. They don’t have a part 141 school. They are apparently getting involved in some other type of flight training. I expect they will buy some Cessnas and begin air taxi operations. By doing that they can claim “it’s for research”. And they can fulfill their promises (but doing it in a way that’s been done by thousands of air taxis before them). I really think this is a scam.

    You asked a fairly dumb question mid-video. You don't do tests on a single test article, you do it over multiple planes because each one can serve a different purpose (stress tests for one, material tests for another, etc.) That means the product is still in the EMD phase and they're trying to move into LRIP before moving into Full Rate Production.

    This is horrid research lol.
    You don't just make one product and call it a day especially if you're trying to prove that it's safe to fly people in it.

    Archer is more interested in making an aircraft. Joby has the real business plan top to bottom and is developing the actual market. Joby's aircraft already flies at 200 mph, and they are already experimenting with hydrogen power, which will significantly expand the range. Joby's idea is to get the field off the ground, then expand the range with an upgraded aircraft. Archer just wants to sell aircraft when there is no actual business.

    fwiw culper research and similar activist groups typically take massive shorts and then drop articles to create fear. they have a repeated track record of making completely false claims/false analogies which are borderline just lying and benefiting from the short term fear created by their reports. its borderline illegal what they do but as long as they don't intentionally lie they get away with it.

    They won’t publish their flight test qualification schedule, even though they previously stated FAA certification in 2024. They won’t publish their aircraft’s battery charging time. Flight time is under 1 hour on a charge. LA winters, icing can be down to 1000’ or less. They won’t publish anti-Icing systems nor what impact winter temperatures impact the battery charge capacity.
