I liked this and bought it actually cause of stumbling into this review and found in the end credits btw. It's indeed love letter to older games, but not exactly flawless experience. Parser as usual can be fun or infuriating. Here it's mixed bag. Usually works just fine, but it like omits use of word "USE". I somewhat understand this decision, but only if parser is so-to-say foolproof and well imho here it's far from that. I think I got stuck was it four times in situation where I just couldn't find correct phrasing and had to check out hintbook that I'm in right tracks and still had to go for actual walkthrough in few places. Rope scene and very end of the game are prime examples. In addition there are somewhat of an plot blackholes in game. Like you know absurd amount of stuff when ranger has arrived and you can try to show and tell many quite critical seeming things to him and parser answer is… Nothing?? Where it usually states somehow your error. I think this is bit poor design and that character should've maybe been introduced quite a bit later in to the game. Because of this it felt I've ran into some bugs or something. Also in very end I still couldn't remember exactly all characters when questioned and game doesn't offer like character sheet or something. All because encounters are quite shallow in the end. Like that chick you arrive with feels quite unneccessary character alltogether. Overall 8/10, but I can't exactly recommend full priced. It felt tad bit too much for me. But I really hope this all doesn't come around to stating game is bad. It's not.

Oh, these little girls. Their little mouths are open because of the excitement while they are eavesdropping. I'll play this game to death and I'll enjoy every minute of it!

Oh boy the way you mentioned Colonel's Bequest and old friends really took me back. My best friend and I sat in my friend's basement and played through it about 35 years ago.

The Venn Diagram of PushingUpRoses talking about murder mysteries and talking about retro adventure games (or modern adventure games inspired by the style) is just a nice little sliver of PushingUpRoses talking about murder mystery adventure games that simply says "PURfection"
