Step 1. Become Wiccan.
Step 2. Get job with government.
Step 3. Refuse to do job for Christians.
Step 4. See what they have to say afterwards.
Step 5. Reference Kim Davis to defend my case.
Step 6. See how they react.
Step 7. Go to jail anyway.

+the1janitor I've been seeing a lot of comparisons between the story in the above link, and Kim Davis/ other stories about "religious freedom." Some people can't see a difference between the two, others think the difference is obvious. I would be really interested in knowing your thoughts on the matter. Would you be willing to do a video on it?

Actually, there is gay marriage/relationship in the bible.
King David and Saul's son (Jonathan) are in a relationship.

While I agree with you, you're demonstrably wrong on the "Bible not mentioning gays" thing.
Edit: Never mind, you mentioned marriage, not sex.

I agree with just about all of this; but to clarify, Ms. Davis wasn't jailed (just) for "not doing her job." She was jailed for willful disobedience of a court order. Her job was to serve as a public official; she refused to comply with the law in the course of that job; was sued by people who she refused licenses to, defended her position in court; lost; was ordered to follow the law, and continued to refuse. If she'd just quit her job, then she would no longer be subject to the court order (because it was issued to her in her official capacity), and wouldn't be at risk of imprisonment. She was held on contempt because she chose to remain in this job and refused to do it as required by the law.
This seems like an important distinction, both because it's worth clarifying that no one is thrown in jail just for refusing to do a job here, and because political conservatives seem to idealize the Rule of Law – at least, so long as it's not a law they personally disapprove of. Ms. Davis's real moral failing, apart from bigotry and intolerance, is not being from the South or a lower class, it's hypocrisy.
Just a minor quibble. I love your channel (and your hair =P ).

Kim Davis did not break any law. The supreme court has no constitutional authority to change or enact laws whatsoever. Neither does the President. Only Congress can make it legal in all 50 states and they have not done that. The last law Congress passed as pertaining to marriage was during President Clinton's presidency and it defined marriage as between a man and a woman. President Clinton signed it into law. That law still stands and has not been legally changed by congress.

I think the comparison to a one-time sin (taking the Lord's name in vain) and a homosexual relationship, which is a considered a constant life-style sin, is a little contrived and off-the-mark. The more apt comparison is the one you make towards your Atheism.
The weird part is that all examples brought against her (divorces, adultery, remarriages) and things like that can easily be considered (mistakes) or temporary occurrences. They're instances of sin, which Christians see as forgivable. Getting Gay Married seems to be perceived as an allowance of sin into the lives of the individuals involved, and every activity therein contributes to that "lifestyle".
DISCLAIMER (because I know I'll need it): I am Agnostic and in favor of Gay Rights. Just playing Devil's Advocate here.

http://biggerfatterpolitics.blogspot.com/2015/09/the-hypocrisy-ignorance-and-stupidity.html Huckabee is a false Christian who ignores Romans 13:1-2
13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves

Exactly. It has nothing to do with her religious convictions; she just hates gay people. Pure and simple.

December 20, 2025 at 7:12 pm
and another thing to add to what you said, and you did say it quite well, is that the marriage Kim Davis is trying to protect, the one most Christian are trying to protect, is a sacramental binding, not a legal one. It's unfortunate that they are called the same thing, mostly because until very recently they were practiced hand in hand, but that doesn't mean they are the same thing. Christians view gay marriage as wrong because their sacrament of marriage is only between a man and a women. Changing the belief system of an entire religion, and a pretty prominent one, is not what is happening. Gay marriage, as it is legal today, is something a person does outside of the church. I feel like a whole lot of hate could be surpassed if people just recognized this. Thank you for explaining this situation to me and everybody else.

Great video! It's true that the Bible says nothing about loving gay relationships. There's a great book out called "God and the Gay Christian" that walks you through the biblical arguments step by step and proves that the Bible does not prohibit same-sex marriage. I highly recommend that everybody read it.

I thought this article provided an additional and interesting angle on the spectacle. My baseline approach to religious organizations is that, hey, if you want to base your communal practices on hate and fear that is technically your right in all but a few cases, so I should just mind my own business. I wonder if that is just an excuse to be a lazy citizen, though? Private practice influences who you are – or more importantly, how you behave – publicly and that is everyone's concern.
It is pretty easy to talk about this stuff casually, but what can you do about actually acting on it? Privately I try to engage in discussions with people, but it seems like some regulation could be in order – but where do you draw lines that are clear and don't lead to absurd enforcement outcomes?
As just one example, let's think about spanking. As far as science understands, it is not as effective as other methods of socialization and tends to harm children psychologically. The main reason for its continued existence is the fact that people were raised that way, feel they turned out okay, and thus repeat the cycle. Research also indicates that the majority of parents who practice spanking do not even use this idealized ineffective form, but rather beat their kids as a way of venting their emotions which can only really be described as physically, psychologically, and socially abusive. It ruins you in all the ways.
At first glance you might want to just regulate it away, but it is more complicated than that. (And we are slowly starting. Some states have made it illegal for teachers to hit children for example.) So if parents who would normally spank wanted to be law abiding but were raised with spanking and didn't really have a sense for what non-violent parenting might look like, I kind of feel for them. Do we need public programs that help you raise your kids? If you've just escaped a community that uses these methods, do we need public rehabilitation programs? It seems like before you even begin regulating these communities, you might first create programs to help people exiting them. From there you use the same arguments for public health care – that the program will basically pay for itself because it makes those people more productive (and, in this case, socially competent) members of society.
Anyway, the topic could probably be cut up into many smaller and more clearly defined discussions from this point, many of which seem to be super important to people today.

You sir, are the voice of reason. These fundamental, evangelical right wingnuts are all convinced they know what God and Jesus want but they don't realize that Jesus was hanging out with the prostitutes and lepers and outcasts. He loved everyone and shamed the righteous for acting just like these people are acting now. I'm just hoping the "rapture" will suck em all up soon.

Your next video should be your take on "reverse racism" and whether it exists or not. Its a very sensitive topic, where people insist that their opinion is the absolute truth. You seem to be reletivly unbiased in all your videos (which is why i love them) and i think that a video on this topic could be exponentially beneficial towards society as a whole

I agree totally, but I'd like to add a couple of things about the Bible.
It doesn't say anything about gay people; the concept of sexual orientation was unknown in the ancient world. There seems to have been a general understanding that sexual desire could be a dangerous force as well as a positive force, and ancient writers recognized that sometimes it could be a dangerous force in same-sex contexts. But the notion that sex acts could be decided based on an inherent individual orientation would have seemed quite odd to them. They would have regarded sex as having to do primarily with procreation, and decisions about procreation were made by the families of potential husbands and wives. Individual choice was only a minor factor. Romantic love was virtually unknown, and would have been regarded as dangerous to the extent it was recognized.
Also, there are only a handful of references to gay sex in the Bible, and it's not always clear exactly what they are referring to. In several cases, it appears they are talking about same-sex prostitutes, for example, or other degrading or socially harmful behavior. But the Bible is really a library, and the fact that there are only five references to sex between people of the same gender anywhere in this library shows its lack of importance to those writers.
Basically, this just confirms what you said even more strongly. Deriving sexual prohibitions from isolated biblical texts is seriously anachronistic … even if you believe it's divinely inspired. People like Kim Davis are actually attacking the Bible, because the Bible simply doesn't say what they claim it says.
As for her multiple marriages, I don't think talking about this is helpful. She could say, "Yes, I'm a sinner, I've done wrong, but now I'm trying to do what's right, because I've been saved by Jesus, and that's why I won't sign off on gay marriage." Which may well be bullshit, but it's not hypocrisy.
