TRIVIAL PURSUIT exploded into popular culture in the mid 1980’s and you might be surprised to know that it’s history doesn’t go back much further than that.

Created in Canada, it had a bit of a slow start before catching fire and helping to revitalize the board game industry.

I loved Trivial Pursuit when I was younger, but there have always been errors, much as with any trivia product, and of course there's the problem that cards, being printed, don't auto-update. There's an infamous meme about a card asking which of these actors has never played Batman…which became obsolete in 2008.

I remember trying to play it later on when I was at least a teenager and I SUCKED! lol I have never been all that great at the game but yes I do remember wanting to play it too at a young age.

My main Trivial Pursuit memory was growing up with an old edition bought at a yard sale and half the comic questions were about the Legion of Superheroes. It was the early 90s when they'd been essentially wiped from continuity and I was a kid so all the questions about Saturn Girl? and Lightning Lad? were genuinely baffling.

Eventually we got a then-current Entertainment Edition and I dominated that thing so hard we stopped playing after a few months lol

Take off, eh? I didn't know Trivial Pursuit was invented by Canadians!
I can vouch for 80stees. I bought a Soundwave t-shirt from them a long time ago. Okay, maybe the early 2000s. It's thick, good quality, not faded at all, and I still wear it!

I'll never forget the first time I won this game. My brother-in-law thought he had me, and then I dropped the answer: Ear Ring Magic Ken. He demanded to know how I knew the answer, and it all had to do with a school project where I had to pore over a huge stack of random magazines. So the lesson is: do your stupid projects because they'll let you own your brother-in-law.

12:15 The author put in a mountweasel! The name for putting in small mistake in a work to prevent a copy being made. The term is from a dictionary who added mountweasel to catch people who copied them. This entire video helps explain why I thought I needed to know everything. Trivia got popular when I turned 8! Thanks for another great video.

I have seen "Breaking all the Rules" but no idea how you would get a copy. Yes it was a comedy, and the first 3rd or so went over so many antics during their effort to write the large amount of questions. Its the silly things in the move that are the most memorable. Not sure how many of them were true.

I don't have a lead on that CBC movie, but I vividly remember my parents watching and thinking as an 11 year old that it was wild they made a movie about creating a board game. That's when I learned it was created by Canadians as well.

As a kid in the 80s, with little other entertainment, I spent untold hours just reading the cards without realizing how much information would stick with me.

Fast forward to the holidays and our annual games, my family was quietly convinced I was a savant. I was answering the most obscure questions that no ten year old in the 80s had any right knowing. To this day my family thinks I’m smart. I am not.

Sorry I don't have a copy of the CBC TV movie, but I do remember seeing it. I recall the scene where the game's creators gave their investors their first dividend cheque and each one was astonished at how much of a return on their investment they got.

Used to have the original edition for years. I can remember being a kid and visiting my cousins, who somehow had a copy. I was only 7 or 8. But it was this big deal.

I remember playing that edition later and coming across the question “who won the World Series”. Haha. Oops. May need to be a bit more specific.

Man. They already owned a villa and had money to invest into this game… but still. Rather than be mad about that, I'll choose to hope for a world where we all could have the funds to just research and create a multi-million selling board game. A pity he died so young, but at least he gave something to the world that's given joy to so many. It seems to have been a life well-lived.

I remember when my local game shop got a copy of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. This was in the days just prior to the release of The Phantom Menace and the game had a deck of cards with Episode 1 questions. A handful of us decided to play a round. We'd save the Episode 1 questions for the Final Question. I was the first to complete my pie, but the dice wouldn't cooperate and the others were catching up while I went for the center. I had only managed to try (and fail) at 2 questions before 2 other players finished their pies. In moments it would come down to who got the final question right. I circled the center for several rolls before finally landing in the center again. I drew the question "What planet is the capitol of the galaxy?" I was an avid reader of Star Wars EU novels, so I knew the answer, but it just wasn't coming to me. I hemmed and hawed the seconds away but I just couldn't shake the answer loose. With a few seconds to go, I resigned myself to missing the question and probably losing the game to another player. I sighed and said "Oh, I give u…CORUSCANT!!!!" It had come to me at the last possible instant. It was one of the most thrilling gaming wins of my life.
