The Mary Wallopers playing incredible Irish music in the pub!
This is actually in our longer piece from the band (https://youtu.be/zkz7va3e9pk?si=iUWWzt4aHRzqcuNS) but I wanted to release it as a stand alone for folks who didn’t make it to the end lol. We turned up in a random pub in Dundalk and the lads (with help from talented friends) lit the pub on fire with their tunes all night. Just an average day in the best place on Earth. The Wallopers are doing quite well lately, and i’m happy to see it. They played the late late show even (https://youtu.be/FycRwUchoEQ?si=B2qZHCV0Qbej5ERc), and are headlining tours all over.
It really is something to get in there and hear the music, unplugged, live, right there in the pub. I wish America had more of this! We need to all start promoting the idea a bit more, because God knows we have the songs. Here though, there seems to be an over emphasis on the capitalism of it all, on selling tickets, and on playing your own originals over traditional songs everyone can sing/play along with. All in all, makes it tougher to get into. We should do better. Everyone can play, and everyone should! We should all learn to play old tunes, and playing with people in our community.
We also put this movie out on ACTUAL VHS. Yes, it is no longer just a name, GemsOnVHS is real now. It started as a joke, and many hours of tinkering later we created these 100% homemade tapes. Break out your VCR and order one from us, it’ll help keep Gems going. Fair warning through, it might be 25 minutes of this movie, then Die Hard or something for the rest of the tape. Irish men are charismatic and…trouble. Irish men who are musicians are charismatic and trouble on steroids. Only six months to go and I'm heading back to Ireland 🙂

Great stuff lads. Some haircut in the fiddle player, his barber must have been on the same session the boys are singing about before he cut that head !

First heard this in the Criterion pub in Sussex St Sydney in the early 80s sung by Charlie Dixon of the BLF’smissus, whose name I can sadly not remember

Watching and commenting even though I've watched the doc multiple times thru already. This proves how good Mary Wallopers are at injecting energy into a traditional Irish tune.
Also, gotta love seeing Tadhg Mulligan playing with them, great combo. I'm assuming this was filmed the same night that you filmed the Tahg and Saran Mulligan video at the train station?

Ah bless. I love a new Mary Walloper video. They've become big tent festival boyos in the last couple of years but nice see them still hold down the session in the local.
