This Is Why Scott Walker Is A GREAT Songwriter.
I have really wanted to do a video on Scott Walker for a while. He singing and Jacques Brel’s songwriting is so inspiring to me. This is the type of lyricism really gets me going and it’s something I personally find missing in a lot of music out these days. I hope you enjoy the work of Scott Walker & Jacques Brel after watching this. Here is a link to the playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/695EdJClBRKk7j10nFnzMW?si=c3700d729d57401c

Clicking on a video called "This Is Why Scott Walker Is A GREAT Songwriter.", I'm expecting someone to talk about songs on Scott 3 or 4, or maybe "Tilt". I did not expect "Next"!!

My favorite Scott Walker song is Plastic Palace People, which flawlessly depicts a sane person on the verge of turning into a nihilist by coming to terms with the absurdity of life.

But you're looking at a Jacques Brel song not a Scott Walker song. The English lyric is by Shuman and Blau

It's interesting to see the Jacques Brel's version this song. I'm not sure how accurate the English translation is in the subtitles, but it is quite different. Instead of gonorrhoea, he has syphilis!

love scotts songs, but this wasnt one of his. the best of the brel songs were done by Mort Shuman, which is where scott got the lyrics from. watch jacques brel is alive and well and living in paris for an absolute treat..

A video on why Scott Walker was a great songwriter…focusing on a cover? This song’s great, as is Scott, but the lyrics, etc. are confusingly (and repeatedly) referred to in this as his, even after you say it’s a Brel cover. Why not feature one of his originals? As is, this is a video on Jacques Brel’s songwriting.

Thank you for featuring Scott Walker. He's increduble. I'm fairly new to his work, but what an artist! He was a pure genius and the world lost a unique and rare talent when he died.

I fell in love with Scott Engel when I was 14…I am almost 74 now. I joined his fan club…I loved his sound. I am so sad that he has passed he was a part of my formative years.

Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks is actually by Brel, and is a completely different vibe about saying good bye to your friend as he dies & forgiving him for fucking your wife.

You have inadvertently explained why Scott Walker is a genius and you're a talentless wailing purveyor of pastiche who will never in a billion years make anything as good as Scott did.

Literally, just stumbled upon Scott Walker's music….yesterday!!! 60 years old and still uncovering new old music that moves me. Thank you David Buckley for mentioning Scott in his David Bowie biography, Strange Fascination. I have been listening to Scott's music exclusively for the last 24 hours and am astonished, amazed, and inspired. The curse of living in the USA is we are not always exposed to the same music as in the UK. Thank you Justin for being so damn handsome and cool and helping me discover this extraordinary music. Of course, I immediately purchased a Scott Walker compilation off Amazon…..

Scott Walker was so goated. My personal favorites of his are the first 4 songs from Nite Flights. The perfect bridge between his early baroque pop sensibilities and later avant rock experimentations

I made a mixtape (by recording from my vinyl collection!) I named "Engel sings Brel". Obviously, 'If You Go Away' is the standout but it was a good collection. I also made a "Scott Walker sings Engel" tape from the first 4 albums, which I preferred.
