Other higher animals also appear to have a sense of humor, such as chimpanzees, dolphins, and magpies. All three appear to also express laughter.

Are there not other things that cause laughter besides humor?
A moment of discovery? The sheer joy of reuniting with a friend? We might seek that reward for very practical reasons, and rather than become a vestigial instinct , we developed a sense of humor as a shortcut to the reward.
I just wonder about things this way.
Great episode!

The thing is, a bunch of random things happening isnt funny. Humor seems to come from an unexpected resolution to an event or paradox that expresses a more fundamental truth, or an underlying cohesion misdirected by the more overt circumstance. In family guy, peter thinking he is dying only to find out that it was flatulence is funny because the overt observation was consistent with the reality of a heart attack, but the "hidden in plain sight" reality is revealed in the punchline that this chest pain is also, and more commonly, consistent with gas

@5:35 – or as George Carlin put it… "My job is thinking up goofy shit. You know, that’s my job, thinking up goofy shit. My job is to think up stuff and come around and remind you of it. Cause you already knew it, you just forgot to laugh at it, that’s all."

Take it from me: no one is more despised in modern America than the one person out of 500 laughing.
