If our productivity has increase to a point where we’re hitting a wall because AI is doing it better and faster than we can, why don’t we reduce the number of hours of work we do? I find it so strange the as a human civilization we are addicted to and obsessed with “needing” to work. I understand that’s how we have evolves over the millennium. But, we are at a point in our civilization, where we can change the rules of the game and begin to explore a new way of living.

You're missing something – it reducdes the number of jobs, but increases number of opportunities for you to build your own company or product. Instead of doing things what AI can do, you can now build a better product using the AI that can and sell it to other companies.

This is not a fundamental change in innovation. The missing piece of this puzzle that seems obvious to me, but possibly not the good folks at Kurzgesagt, is that what has been happening is that as technology has been improving, our governance structures have been getting worse instead of better. It is harder and harder for people to start businesses, more and more of our world's resources are wasted by governments, and the ever increasing tower of laws make it more difficult for people to do anything. We're being strangled by our governments, and the only thing that has prevented our society from collapsing already has been the progression of technological advances. It is very very clear that there is tons of work that needs to be done out there. The problem is very clearly and obviously not that machines are doing everything we need done. Rather, something else must be preventing us from doing what is needed, and its not the machines. At least not the technological machines.

yay i'm replaced and we've done litterally nothing in 8 years. I'm AT COLLEGE trying to respecialize from being a writer to an electrical technician and I'm fully aware that as soon as humanoid robots and advanced AI are sold together that job is toast. there are 2 possible outcomes with UBC: either we live in a utopia, free to engage in creative and artistic hobbies while building a better society, or lack of purpose and limited unearned income contribute to rise in crime and degradation.

Reminder: people don't "need" jobs. Capitalism generates a need for people to have a job to survive, but we could move away from that system.
