6 Weird Christmas Episodes You Forgot About

Remember When | December 22, 2025

#rememberwhen Christmas TV went completely off the rails — with hostage Santas, homeless teens at the mall, teen alcoholism, weaponized tacky lawn displays, a forgotten optimist at a bar, and one very confused Holiday Armadillo trying to explain Hanukkah.

In this deep dive, we’ll dig into 6 weird Christmas episodes you forgot about — from The Golden Girls’ “‘Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas” and Saved by the Bell’s “Home for Christmas,” to Good Times’ “Sometimes There’s No Bottom in the Bottle,” Roseanne’s “White Trash Christmas,” Living Single’s “Living Kringle,” and Friends’ “The One with the Holiday Armadillo.” We’ll revisit hostage situations, very special episodes, class warfare in Christmas lights, found-family heartbreak, and the moment Ross Geller turned into a bargain-bin superhero just to teach his kid about the Maccabees.

The Saved by the Bell Christmas episode (Well, actually, it was a two-part special), is one of my favorite Christmas episodes of all time!
I wish you could've talked about some more TV show Christmas episodes that aren't on this list! TV shows like, Alf, Family Matters, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, or even Step By Step! They also have some memorable Christmas episodes that I love and enjoyed every Christmas!
    And a Merry Christmas everybody!
    🎄🎁🎅❄️⛄😊!

There were a few out of pocket Christmas episodes from Roseanne. There's one in one of the later seasons where DJ keeps getting an erection in school and the final season, it comes out on Christmas that Dan is cheating on Roseanne, which drives their split for a bit until they reconcile at the end (and it all turns out to be Roseanne's book and Dan really died from his heart attack lol).

The only one I saw was Saved by the Bell. I wasnt even born yet to see the Good Times one. Never watched Living Single. I only watched Rosanne, Golden Girls, & Friends sporadically

Elizabeth Berkley was stunning in Show Girls. I loved that movie and don't understand why it gets so much hate. This show was past my era but as a young adult I started watching it as re-runs. I had a crush on Lark Voorhies.

I felt nostalgic about shows from the 80s until I started watching them, and realized how there was so many things within the golden Girls for example that are deeply disturbing, and I don't know how I forgot some of the episodes. When Dorothy for example pushes her student whose parents are illegal immigrants that brought him as a infant to the US, that he should turn himself and his parents into i.c.e. That is one of the easiest examples, that haunt me now, and make it where I can't look at those shows the same. Many episodes are extremely disturbing from so many shows.

My favorite "weird" Christmas episode is the episode of Bewitched that dealt with racism. It has wonderful intentions and a great message….but it didn't age that well lol It's here on YouTube if you want to watch it.

Thankfully I would see "Saved By the Bell" reruns on TBS in the mid-90s. That episode was touching because not everyone who's struggling is a thief and not everyone who's struggling on drugs/liars/drunks. Of course you have to be careful in belong people but it shouldn't stop you from being kind. It was different then. Now we have to be a bit stronger in our response to anyone because not everyone has good intentions and we have a lot of people brought in.

Regarding "The Golden Girls", I've seen reruns too on Hallmark. Not sure when I started watching.

I wish you had given a short explanation about what happened in the books of the Maccabees.

Although originally in all Bibles, Protestants and Jews eventually had them removed among other books. Judah Maccabee, or Judah the Hammer, led the Maccabees, who didn’t just stand up for their Jewish religion by being willing to die rather than renounce it like Hannah and her seven sons, the Maccabees actually rose up against the pagan ruler and fought for their religion. The Maccabean Revolt occurred in the Second Temple period after the return from the Babylonian Captivity but before Jesus was born.

A traditional symbol of Judaism is the seven-branched menorah. Seven — three for Heaven (Trinity) and four from the four points of the compass north, south, east and west for the earth — symbolizes everything, that is, God’s power over Heaven and earth.

The nine-branched menorah has only been used since the Maccabean Revolt in the celebration of Hanukkah, which can be spelled with an “H” and two “K’s” or with a “C-H” and one “K.” — Hanukkah H-A-N-U-K-K-A-H or Chanukah C-H-A-N-U-K-A-H.

This Jewish Festival of Lights commemorates the purification of the Temple after it was defiled. Antiochus IV Epiphanes, which stands for “Antiochus IV, manifestation of Zeus,” fighting for the Seulucids, or Syrians, had built an altar to the pagan god Zeus right in the Temple! How rude!

After purifying the Temple from that desecration, the Maccabees, also called the Hasmonean Dynasty, only had enough oil to light the Temple menorah for one night, yet the oil lasted for eight nights — until more provisions arrived. The ninth — and center — branch of the Hanukkah menorah holds a candle used to light the other eight candles, which signify the eight-night miracle celebrated at Hanukkah. The story of the Maccabean Revolt is in the books of 1 and 2 Maccabees, which is in the Catholic Bible, whose Old Testament was originally based on the Septuagint, or first translation (into Greek) of the Hebrew Bible.

Jews play dreidel at Hanukkah. The four-sided spinning top has a Hebrew initial on each side, which together stand for “A great miracle happened there.” Players play the game performing actions according to which initial lands face up.

The story of the Maccabees and the miracle of Hanukkah aren’t in the Jewish canon of Scripture because they were removed in an effort to eliminate passages that supported early Christianity. You see, 2 Maccabees 12:38-46 supports praying for the dead. In addition, the books of the Maccabees were originally written in Greek.

A wholesome one from "Major Dad" S2E12 "Gift of the Major" The reason it sticks out is because of obvious nod to the TMNT craze of the 90s being subbed in by the "Ecco Geckos." Which while I was watching it I (an avid TMNT fan) noticed they were just repainted Leatherhead figures which are from the TMNT line of Playmates Toys.
