Not a recent watch, but The Game, a mystery movie from 1996. I can't give away too much due to spoilers, but it's about this rich banker with a failing marriage and awful family looking for something to spice up his life, but when he's introduced to the ultimate IRL mystery game, he finds trouble distinguishing fiction from reality as his life falls apart.

I think the issue I have with dropping everything, and going physical is two fold.
1.) Space, I don't have a crazy amount of it for what I consume.
2.) Physical media is slowly going the way of the ghost, whether it's the media itself deteriorating over time, or ways to play said media getting discontinued in favor of the dystopian world of Cloud and AI.

Honestly, it's not enough to just go physical.
I'm 110% on board with taking my media offline, and enjoying it the way I want to. That's why I made it a personal mission to buy as much hard drives as possible, and back up my movies, music, sometimes games onto them so I have a way to access them whenever I can.

my favourite movies I own on DVD are Airheads, The Crow and Mermaids.
I've been collecting DVDs for a few years and CDs since I was a teenager in the 90s. Almost all my DVDs are second hand from the thrift store because hollywood doesn't need my money. On the other hand, my favourite bands do and I prefer to spend my money to support them, especially the lesser known bands.
Never in my life I paid for a streaming service and I hate Spotify. The most modern piece of tech I have, aside from my phone, is a 16 year old iPod classic that I bought when my old walkman broke, and that baby is still working on a daily basis, mainly through an AUX cable into my car stereo. And speaking of cars, I suggest anybody to find a second hand model without ANY technology. Last year I had to replace my car and it took me several months but I finally found what I was looking for: a 1989 Suzuki Samurai. No screens, no connecting BS, no constant beeping for a thousand different things. No airbags 🀣 Pure bliss.
As for my phone, it's in B&W mode. I've tried to look into replacing it with a "dumb" phone but my country makes it super hard to live without it. The problem isn't even the way people use it: it's when the government makes new regulations that force public offices and banks to rely on smart phones without any alternative.

I’ve suddenly realised the cost of streaming music on our devices. It’s not cheap considering that it’s essentially renting music.
So I’ve dug out all our CD’s and buying far more all of a sudden to rip into Flac compression onto my computer. Then found fre:ac audio converter. Bought two android phones purely to store the files under the Flac compression to use within both of our cars modern head unit systems.
1,000 kbps for each song or so, and sounds great. Oh and the app used is free on the play store. Called Musicolet. And it’s works flawlessly with our cars.

Haha okay well… I don’t have just one favorite film that I have seen recently. I almost exclusively watch Old Hollywood and have for most of my life and I am only 30. Here is a list of films i watched recently that are my favorites:

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)
    Camille (1936)
    Laura (1944)
    The Philadelphia Story (1940)
    Boom! (1968)
    Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950)
    Father Goose (1964)
    Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
    Django (1966)
    The Dollars Trilogy (1960s)
Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970)
    Kelly’s Heroes (1970)
    The Shining (1980)
    Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
    Bringing Up Baby (1938)
    Easy Rider (1969)
    The Endless Summer (1966)
    Fantasia (1940)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
    Gaslight (1944)
    The Godfather Trilogy (1970s-1990s)
The House of Seven Gables (1940)
    Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
    The Third Man (1948)
    Wait Until Dark (1967)

I know you might be thinking that my list is too long, but I cannot help it. I have watched so many thousands of films that these are the ones that really hit me in my soul. :3 I hope you all can enjoy them as much as I have! They are all available to be purchased as physical media! If not, you can find them on ok.
(dot)ru if you are willing to deal with a Russian site, it’s the best one for bootlegs that I have ever found.

The latest movie I enjoyed was The Secret World of Arriety, but I honestly recommend all Studio Ghibli movies. They are masterpieces full of top quality animation and beautiful messages and you can tell they were made with love and care. It’s exactly the kind of projects we should support in the era of AI slop.

Folks, PLEASE check out your local library’s physical media collection! Most have CDs and DVDs. Some have Bluerays, audiobooks on CD, audiobook MP3 players, video games, and so many more cool things to check out! Librarian recommendations are so much better, and more personal than algorithmic trash. Library collections get weeded out when no one checks out stuff, so get in those stacks and check out some stuff, return it when you’re done, and do it all over again 100%, free of cost! Your library is also mandated to protect patron privacy, so they won’t judge what you check out, and once you return it, they don’t keep a record of previous checkouts. Libraries are the antithesis of this slop nonsense. There is so much heart at your local library.

The biggest issue with the algorithm no matter what app you use is that it only shows you what it thinks you like based on your activity. It doesn't encourage you to try other things or put new things in front of you, so you end up with this incredibly homogenized for you page that keeps you in a little box.

As an unemployed student I found my best choice as a music enjoyer: Tidal premium. No ads, high quality audio, a better payments for artists and no AI. I also believe that if buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing, for most of the things

This has to be the first time ever when you completely missed the point. It's alright tho, compared to the mountain of work that you are blessing us with…the free pass is self implied. Still, to me..all this ''outrage'' is very similar to the times when people started to hear samples in songs and be completely turned upside down ''well ISN'T THIS STEALING?durrdurrrdurrr'' …or for that matter when the first programmed songs came out ''oh the computer made it for them it is not real musicπŸ₯΄'' and we all know how that ended up……..Plus, in the video , you don't mention ONCE , the persons in the middle , you know ..the HUMANS who are making the evil A.I. do all this slop. So, we sure DON'T have A.I. music. Not yet. Hopefully , not ever. 🀞✌

The video says we should support independent creators and buy physical media, but honestly, why the hell would the average person spend money on that when most can barely afford lunch? Piracy exists because people don’t have disposable income, not because they don’t value art. Telling viewers to β€œvote with their wallet” ignores the reality that most wallets are empty. If the media system is broken, blaming individuals for not paying up just adds another layer of hypocrisy…

My most recent movie watches were both Free Willy on DVD, and Addams Family Values on Blu-Ray. They're both genuinely well-made movies from 1993. One, my favorite film of my childhood, since renting it from the Video Store on VHS, in the Early to Mid 2000s. The other a favorite comedy, despite being a sequel to another comedic favorite, that's managed to be as well done as its predecessor was. Especially considering how most of the movies I own on Physical Media tend to be from 1993 itself. Alongside Jurassic Park, The Fugitive, Demolition Man, Matinee from Joe Dante, and The Sandlot to name a few. Which proves to me how much of an excellent banger year 1993 was for movies as a whole. Just as the following year, '94, would be as well.

This was the year i decided to invest into more CDs and Vinyl records, the quality of the sound is so superior, its not even funny, also i toke some time from social media and God, its good to do that.

This past summer, I watched all of Degrassi: The Next Generation. I loved the authentic 2000s vibe and seeing the tech they used back then! I've yet to find a high school series that is in the same time setting and has the same impact.

    Stargate 1994
I saw it as a child but completely forgot about it. Watched it last month and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s my all time favorite movie now.
It’s so charming, the music feels magical, the film coloring is perfect. I absolutely love the story. It made me feel like an explorative child again.

As I see it, people need to learn to not rely on the algorithm. I get why people do it. There was a time when the platforms and their algorithms weren't parasitic. Unfortunately, it was a decade ago that algorithms were better. Now, people need to rely on such things like word of mouth or those who work together on a project.

Although I don't bother with it, I will admit to getting caught up in rage bait. Then I realized I got pulled into one of the slop heaps that pollute the net. I did in fact "reset myself" and made a video talking about it. Unfortunately, the algorithm will still recommended me rage bait slop, no matter how many times I say I'm not interested.

That is another problem. Emotional manipulation is all over the place and we need to learn to spot it. I attempt to use critical thinking, asking myself questions like "am I really interested in this?" or "is this relevant to what I'm looking for?" Asking oneself questions like these can work against being pulled into the slop.
