Laughter is prob one of the most confusing things that humans do to this day. But I think all you really need to laugh with someone is some kinda shared experience. some of the funniest moments in my life has been shared with another person, who was either in the same predicament or experiences something similar. Usually perpetuated by the fact that said thing is actually kind of sad, I mean we laugh so we don’t cry right? I don’t know if that true per se but I hope it is. Also explaining a 2 min joke usually leads to prolonged and more intense laughter if they get it.

6:29 "It's digital social glue and you can get high on it alone in the dark."

Nice try… but my digital social doctor told me I had to stop doing that…

The problem is that you are seeking a single cause or explanation. But there can be multiple routes to the same response. Ergo multiple explanations can be "true", but incomplete. My theory is that laughter is a way of resolving absurdity. It keeps us from breaking down mentally when we come across things which do not make sense. In that sense, it's like a gag reflex of the mind. But that's just one theory by one dude, me.

    It's not complete either!

People also call things that aren't funny, implying that someone's GOTTA think something so dumb/embarrasing/painful to watch is funny (ie life, the human condition, your mom, etc).

The first Poopie video to end without the remixed Invader Zim soundtrack in a while. The meme-chain has been broken. A joke broken by a joke. Meta commentary. Amused complex monkey grunting

Weirdly enough, I think two-minute jokes and no-explanation jokes are kind of complete opposites?

    Let me explain;

A Two-Minute joke is a situation that begins relatively normally, before spiraling out of control and ultimately ending with the entire ordeal being completely pointless or worse than it started (See Peep Show or Always Sunny or I Think You Should Leave).

No-Explanation jokes, on the other hand, are a man running into your bedroom, slapping you in the face with a fish, and then running away before you've even had time to process what's just happened to you (See Yahtzee Croshaw, Caddicarus, asdfmovie, Brian David Gilbert, Game Changer, or that one whiteface scene in Atlanta).

There is another type of joke, where the elaborateness of something inexplicable is part of the humor (Gooseworx does this a lot, to consistent success), but that tends to be either a subcategory of Two-Minute jokes, or a general aura of absurdist humor.

To me, it's highly advisable to not mix those two styles of comedy; Otherwise, you risk making a joke that keeps going long after the actual point as been made. And there's few things more painful than a joke that's not funny.

    …this was a bit of a rant.

(Also, S-m Hyde being shown as a philosopher is definitely A Choice. Look up "S-m Hyde Episode 2" and click on the video by "Reaction Podcast," and you'll see why).

I have two favorite jokes, but one is really long so here's my other favorite:
5 guys walk into a bar,
    . . .
You'd think one of them woulda seen it!
    😀🦗🦗

Sometimes we also make jokes to defuse awkward or depressing situations.

Like that uncle at the family funeral describing the deceased as "always being a bit stiff"
