You'd expect someone on fire and sinking, to take their situation seriously enough to send the right signal, and not something that comes off as a half-assed "yo, if you've got nothing better to do, could you drop by on your way?" If they can't even be bothered asking for help, they clearly aren't in any real trouble…

As bizarre as this sounds, this has actually happened. Some divers got trapped in an oil pipe, and despite the company confirming they were alive, they just chose to do nothing because it was easier.
