The East has been studying extensively what the West just started approaching. I don't blame Shaun(Sean?) for retreating to a religion that doesn't deal with nuance after he experienced some frightening entities or reality. Western cultures have been shaped heavily by Abrahamic faiths even when one is secular. Therefore dabbling with occult or hidden knowledge may seem appealing at first to Westerns but eventually they hit a threshold (for most) and they crave the safety their childhood faith gave them. That's perfectly understandable and I think staying sane is more important that figuring out "what all this means", if the latter will cost you your sanity and well-being. In Hinduism and Buddhism, especially in left hand paths like nondual Tantra, it is made clear 99% of people are not supposed to be sitting there contemplating the edge of consciousness and reality nor should they be playing around with psilocybin. You're supposed to play your role in the game("simulation", Shiva's play etc whatever you want to call it) as best you can. In fact, I personally don't support the idea of psilocybin to see what's behind reality. When I started serious Sadhana several years ago, I had stopped using cannabis for over 4 years by then and never touched psilos in my life.
