What We All Want To Be When We Grow Up – A Lesson From Our Younger Self

It’s good to have career goals. It’s good to be engaged and successful in the give and take of society. But when we are young and we are asked who we want to be when we grow up, perhaps we already are it.
I'm not from the US – I assume this channel is "from there" – but I can say that in Poland, where I'm from, they also asked us who we want to "become", but it didn't give me the impression that I need it to feel whole. I only stressed that I'd not find a good way to make a living. It was understood that I need to do something to sustain myself and there are things I'd like to do in life when, inevitably, I'll grow up. You know, your rocket scientist, your fireman, tailor etc. I think that asking who they'd want to "become" is still better. It's more practical. If you ask a kid what they'd want to "do" when they grow up, they could say "I want to go around the world in an air balloon", and you want them to think of a career, so… I hope that this word "become" didn't scare any of you into feeling insecure and incomplete.
