What TV Can Learn From Video Games: Game Juice | Bley’s Arcade

Team Coco | July 26, 2026

Bounce, dings, and camera shake; all the little bells & whistles that make video games impossible to put down are known as “Game Juice.” This week, Aaron Bleyaert and Andrew Gruss discuss the ways Game Juice can be used by TV creators to super charge their shows and give viewers a truly epic experience.

I don't think he understands what game juicing means. FEEDBACK is the number one goal. The game feel of a muzzle flash when you fire the trigger, sound design, reload animation. Many things can fall under this umbrella that you could also map to film, but it's not game feel. Also credit Jan Willem Nijman for "The art of screen shake" talk.

I liked the xray idea for complicated storylines characters, locations etc. They probably should ditch the game idea and just develop that idea. Old or new TV he could even go back and do game of thrones and have an xray map/location/lineage embedded in the old show i love it!

Phenomenal 1st Seasons with lots of Juice that also lost track of what made them appealing in additional seasons: The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and Kidding, Michael Gondry is a juicelord

4:25 Why does every fat, lazy person, have the opinion that all sports are unplayable, except through watching it on television,or playing it in a game…The outside exists bro šŸ˜… You can go play any sport, any time you want to. No one is stopping you,but you.šŸ˜‚

Jesus people leave Bley alone. Let him find his voice it takes time. Bley keep going. Would love to see you play games with guests instead of just talking about them. But you do you.

The issue with Mixtape is that it is fundamentally NOT a game, it HAS (mini)games within it, sure but as a whole it lacks the fundemantal "mechanics" required for something to be a "game" and even the minigames that are present don't really effect the story, they are skinned to a scene but truely don't MATTER in anyway or effect anything else

What it truely is, is interactive storytelling, but even in that regard there is no real choice to the Story, so again it falls short on even the benchmark of things like "choose your own adventure" books which at least did give a gamefied experience to the STORY ITSELF.

Wardrobe in virtually EVERY single show/movie need some serious love.

Costuming has just become TERRIBLE and a lot of it is due to the shift Away from doing things in camera in favour of shooting on the volume or for making CGI easier by having the "cleanest" base to work with.

However that means that virtually All of the realism just get sucked out because everything looks Prestine.

i looked up the presentation that influenced this episode. it's from 2012, the ps2 was in it's last year of being sold. but hey if you're hiring devs, sony and xbox just let go 3,600 workers in the first week of this month, including what i'm lead to believe were tons of tenured ones. so if you wanted to get people who have been making games since the early 2010's, or people in their 30's who were just starting to get their foot in the door in those companies, now would be the time before they're forced to retire from the field altogether in maybe a few weeks time.

Know what game had great "juice," which made me love it, despite the flack it got? Vexx. I believe it was for Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox. I had it on Gamecube, and those combo sounds were so satisfying. Just pummeling and slashing enemies was so fun!

I know The Walking Dead caught a lot of flack for its later seasons (I loved the whole series), but the squelch noises from the zombie gore were really satisfying for me. It really grossed you out and made you feel it, but it also gave the hits and slashes and bites more oomph, ya know?

Whilst the term game juice can be quite broad, a lot of what is suggested in the episode falls outside the idea of game juice/feel IMO.

Bley has a bit of trouble with patience. There’s no need to insert a ā€œyesā€ every couple of seconds when somebody else is talking

Animations, camera moving and shaking is where the juice has to be done. So much game are flat and immersion breaking because of poor work into these simple things.
Like beeing able to see your body and shadow in fps view.
Even holding your gun is bad, should be a rest position at one point.
