What made IRON MAIDEN London Stadium gig the MOST important in their history

Metal Pilgrim | February 17, 2026

Iron Maiden finally did it.

On the 50th year of their existence Iron Maiden played the biggest UK headlining concert of their career at the London Stadium, which their bassist and founder Steve Harris has always dreamt of.

So today, let’s take a look at the historical significance of that concert, specifically for Iron Maiden and its fan base, and then discuss why it felt different from pretty much anything Iron Maiden did before. Here you go!

00:41 – West Ham United FC & Iron Maiden
05:11 – (No) difference in production
07:01 – Verdict & “lack of surprises”

I’m from Brazil and I was there. I saw them in many concerts in Brazil and South America, but this one was very, really very special. Some kind of magical and nostagical felling was in the air, especially at pre-show events like the incredible afternoon at Cart & Horses with familly friends tasting Troopers beers, as well as the event at Eddie's Bar, outside of the stadium. A truly unforgettable day! Up The Irons!

A third of London were in Maiden shirts. Carlisle railway station enroute London Euston was rammed with fans at 6am: 12c to 31c in 5hrs… but I was surrounded by friends/brothers I had never met, from the start of my journey until the end, well past midnight, and on the same streets and train platform the next morning. Good vibes across the City, can't wait for the next gig. Proud to be a part of the family! 🤟🤟

Nicko probably said "im doing the 'ole gig or nuffin"
    Can't blame him.

I'm more surprised Harris didn't start a chant of Forever Blowing Bubbles.
Bruce muttered it at the end … that's it 😅😅😅

Even after everything that he's achieved with Maiden, there must have been several moments on this night where Steve was pinching himself to make sure he was actually awake!

I've seen quite a number of comments from people saying that they'd like to see some former members on stage with the band on this tour, bringing Dennis Stratton up for "Phantom" being a popular one especially. Whilst I understand the sentiment of this, I am of the opinion that the idea would never be something that Steve would entertain. I think that over the second half of their career, post BNW, the band, Rod and the entire Maiden organisation have been at great pains to show that they're not and never will become a nostalgia act with one eye looking over their shoulders, harkening back to their "good old days". I can't pretend to know the mind of Steve Harris but, for me, they'll either be here and now, relevant and in your face…or they'll be not at all.

I was traveling for business last couple of weeks and found my self in London at the weekend Maiden played London Stadium. Bought a ticket and enjoyed the amazing show. Been a fan since I was a kid and although I saw them once before this show was truly special.

Bruce said a couple of days later in Glasgow that next time we come back to Scotland we need to play somewhere bigger because the amount of people who wanted to come watch them the venue couldn't accommodate them

I was there, was my 10th time seeing Maiden and it was the greatest show of theirs I’ve seen, Twickenham in ‘08 was a close second but to be there both of the only Stadium shows on UK soil in their history was special. I agree I thought they’d bring Nico back for at least one song and maybe show a picture of Paul D’iano during Iron Maiden but as you say it is tricky to change things. This show felt special, it felt like the homecoming that they deserved and the atmosphere was electric! UP THE IRONS 🤘🏻

As for Nicko appearance. I had thoughts like that before tour. After tour start, it was clear it’s not going to happen. Simon’s no match to Nicko, and difference is pretty obvious. No one wants to make it even more obvious. It’s completely different league.

And that is exactly what I was afraid of before the tour. I wanted to like Simon. On personal level, I wish nothing but best for him, he seems to be a great guy, and he has enormous shoes to fill. Taking this seat took plenty of courage. But too many times I had “the hell he’s doing” thought. He got better in London compared to Budapest, but still, far, far from being on par with Nicko.

It was a brilliant show. From those I’ve seen, the best on this tour and top-3 overall. The atmosphere was electric. Super intense crowd, with amazing energy. I was in 3rd-5th row, depending on particular moment. And those movements weren’t exactly voluntary 😂

Killers Eddie also wore West Ham shirt, BTW, it’s even visible in video. Steve wore it only for encore.

For Steve, it was obviously important. In the first pause, before Phantom, you could see his eyes wet. I’ve never seen him so emotional.

This really was an incredible day. The whole event had such a vibe – you could feel it was going to be super special. I was also one of the lucky FTTB winners which was the icing on the cake. On the barrier at one if the best Maiden gigs ive ever been part of. Couldnt have been any better . Up the Irons 🤘

I was on the barrier. The atmosphere was brilliant. I had been avoiding the setlist so that was a surprise, not what I expected at all. The performance was in all honesty a little rough around the edges – I have seen them 55 times so maybe my standards are very high. The Glasgow gig two days later was a much much better performance. Maybe the pressure got to them a little, or maybe the sound and feeling was just a bit better at an indoor venue. Honestly, in Glasgow they were absolutely superb. But no matter – London was a hell of an event and I was privilged to be there and witness it from right at the very front…
