Websites Banned From the Internet Archive
Note: This is a documentary production intended for educational, journalistic, and historical purposes. The content examines real events through researched, scripted, and fact-checked reporting in order to inform viewers about systemic failures and significant incidents of public record. Material is presented analytically and without sensationalism.
While the Internet Archive famously preserves everything they’re legally allowed to, they do occasionally make the rare decision to voluntarily ban content. Today we go through a few examples.

Rotton was the first website I was ever shown as a kid by my father. I still don't know why he thought that was a good idea

People argue back and forth whether that site is a cesspit of bigots or a place that documents and exposes awful people and as as someone who browses the place from time to time: it's both. It's a glorified gossip forum filled with actual self admitted bigots but they have a focus on archiving everything and end up actually exposing legitimate creeps quite often. These people exposed zoophile rings too. Every time the creep they expose is trans it's just a case of doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

Free Speech does NOT mean abuse of speech! I am all for cyberbullying websites being permanently eradicated off the web and the trolls being sent to prison and made to do mandatory community service.

The problem with the Internet is either sick, messed up individuals attempting to spread their cancer online or corrupt corporations trying to steal our privacy and freedoms therefore censoring or denying the truth. Just ban the whole thing altogether or at least create an online space built on Loving-Kindness, Compassion and Generosity which is dedicated to helping and selflessly serving other Beings with none of the toxic BS.

Nothing anybody posts should be erased from the only record we have of online activities. It's not a real archive if it bends to the whims of certain groups. It must be unbiased and NOT do things like wiping out DMCA violators' accounts or taking the largest VHS archive known to man & not uploading it in a timely matter. Talking about Marion Stokes' collection, of course. The jerks running the Internet Archive need to be sued for false advertising because that's NOT an archive. "Politically Correct Internet Narrative Site" is more fitting. 😒

I asked a friend about this and his face just turned still for a moment and he stared into the distance.. and I regretted that I asked. I can’t believe how it must have felt if you lived in NYC in 2001 like he did.

Just a bit of feedback, dude. The music is too loud in relation to your voice. It needs to be reduced by at least 2dB.

I agree that the Internet Archive putting up books that were still actively published online was illegal and, to put it mildly, morally questionable, but I find it wild that they got blamed for AI corporations scrapping data off their site (something that's really not the Internet Archive's fault), but for some reason, those same AI corporations not only stealing and plagiarising millions of protected works, but profiteering off that stolen data, is okay and something we just gotta learn to deal with.

everything's banned from the wayback machine/internet archive. Because internet freedom doesn't exist anymore. All that's left is a bunch of internet nerds or internet company execs pretending internet freedom still exists to protect their internet fandom or their pockets and shitty ass "content controlled like eveyrthing else" websites. But more people really do need to start admitting internet freedom is gone. Because you can't feed the starving little kids in Ethiopia until you admit kids are starving in Ethiopia. You can't help out those in Gaza until you admit Gaza's been struck by Israel. You can't prevent the oncoming unnecessary and unprovoked proxy war against Iran, started by Trumps war crime, until you admit there's been a war crime that started a proxy war in Iran. You can't fix the rates of poverty until you admit there's a broken down economy/poverty issue. And you can't combat fascistic control of internet information, via government agencies and corporate entities in order to maintain the government narrative until you admit your corporations and government failed you and has become fascistic. Including via control of the internet. Well, we're in the center of project 2025 for crying out loud. Everyone else already knows fascisms kicked in so stop pretending. It isn't even working anymore (unless looking too yellow to even admit this crap is occurring is your only goal).

One interesting blocked site to me is Neopets. Yes, that Neopets. I got curious one day and tried to use the Internet Archive to look at the old site layout and was shocked.

'Free speech' and its always white pdf files, sex offenders, stalkers, CP hosts, neo Nazis and neoliberals lmao. That is why you got to draw a line even with free speech. There are monsters like these who would use it for going after vulnerable people.

Idk whats happening but its hard to watch the first 3 mins. The audio is really meek?? Or youre very soft spoken in the intro that it just sounds like droning. After the introduction, its way easier to hear and understand you.

Okay now that i finished the video and you want an old netizen’s thoughts about the current state of the net.
It’s sad. On multiple levels.
Yes the older net was a weird place full of questionable content. But there was also an aspect of freedom and anonymous enjoyment.
Now, one cannot go make a blank website proclaiming—i dunno, their love of something or artistic endeavours without the haunting aspect that 1) people can fuck with you (like kiwis) and 2) rip-off companies can see something you spent effort on, like art, and then replicate it and sell it en masse for dirt cheap, thereby making your art obsolete.
This is not a personal rant i am not an artist that sells my work.
My other old man hot take is there are some good aspects of the New Net.
Like your channel.
Like the fact that kids can legit say “i want to be a content creator” and it is actually something that they can achieve. I am always blown away by how young people can become financially stable just by sharing videos online. That is amazingly cool, to me.
