There’s an editing error in this video. When I re-cut a segment, I forgot to move the honk…which was meant to bleep Tipper saying “masturba…” LOL. My bad! Let me know if you caught it.

It’s crazy how people came together, and spent money on “new coke,” but won’t for things like homelessness, hunger, social issues etc…but for a soft drink 😂.

There's a Russian film called Anna where her father, filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov, asked her questions every year from age 5 in 1980 through the collapse of the USSR. I'm the same age as Anna and find it a weirdly perfect counterpart to my American childhood

28:00 But it was, and still is, ok to teach children to sing "Row, Row, Row your boat" even as young as kindergarten aged?!? WTF (for those of you that don't know, "Row, Row, Row your boat" is about female masturbation & sexual climax.)

I just found your channel and have been on a bit of a nostalgia trip lol. When I was really little, I remember I'd watch Unsolved Mysteries, and I vividly remember one episode about a haunted bunk bed where the radio next to it would come on blasting static and all kinds of other spooky stuff would happen to the kids sleeping in it at night. So finally the dad slept in it one night and it showed him waking up in the middle of the night, saw something off screen, and screamed like I'd never heard a person scream before. Thinking back now it's kinda funny and cheesy, but that stuff absolutely terrified little me that something could exist that could scare an adult like that.

OMG…#1. LOVE THIS CHANNEL…got here via your 80's commercials…and as a DOB 1973 GenX I'm an instant sub! I remember when we first got cable and MTV being a channel that just played VIDEOS! My daughter is Gen Z and she often talks about wishing that she lived back during 'our time' without all of the technology. I think we really did have the last 'golden age' for the American family😕

Something important to include about Thriller is that Michael Jackson had to fight to get that video on MTV because they had a strict policy to not air black artists. His label president Walter Yetnikoff threatened to pull every Epic Records’ artists off MTV. They then agreed and Michael was subsequently the first black artist to appear on MTV.

You end with, "OK, bye." Is that an 80s thing?? I've done that for as long as I can remember (putting "OK" before my bye) but never noticed anyone else saying bye that way. Hearing you made me think maybe it's a gen X thing. Or maybe it's just a coincidence?

I was 13, but I can’t remember life before tamper-proof medicine bottles, or for that matter tamper-proof anything. One of those moments when pharmaceutical companies and government agencies successfully worked together to change a system for keeping consumers safe.

But man, that was a scary moment in time. I try not to think about the fact the murderer was never caught. 😦

I remember the "New Coke" debacle from when I was a freshman in high school, but was unaware of the time/money/effort put into getting the classic back. I am glad they did though, new Coke was awful IMHO.

I still remember watching a commercial for a "Satanic high schoolers" segment that was going to be on the news later. A picture of teens in deep red robes was shown, and a deep voice intoned, "Carrie cheers on the football field and gets straight As, but she's also not afraid of blood." I don't think i was able to watch the segment, but I REALLY wish I could watch now.

Hey. Its been a minute since Ive watched any of your videos. I just finished this one. Although I dont remember seeing any of this stuff on the news (I was born in '82) I DO remember my mom telling me some years later about the tamper-proofing of pill bottles and how it came to be. She's a retired nurse/poison specialist for the Poison Control Center and helped me with a 3rd grade science project about poisons in the home. Although my project mainly focuses on poisonous substances that can be mistaken for everyday objects (ie laxatives and chiclet gum) I think the subject of the Tylenol murders in '82-the year i was born-was brought up.

My dad grew up in the 80s (born in 68) and hearing his stories about where he was during the challenger disaster or the assassination of John Lennon or LiveAid are so awesome to listen to.

Re: News: I totally remember reading an article in National Geographic about Cocaine and how it was this growing fad among celebrities and athletes; some of them even hanging spoons on gold chains or keeping one fingernail really long. Drugs were far from my own life so who knows what the overall message was supposed to be, I just remember that from then on I took it for granted that Cocaine was for the rich and famous

Omg, Im Canadian & will Never forget Elizabeth Manley Skating at Calgary Olympics. She got Silver and was just the brightest light I'd ever seen. I think most of us thought she deserved Gold, but Katarina Wit was pretty good too.

This actually helped sell albums. All of us wanted to know what was so evil about this music. Jokes on all those who tried to stop music. Those new warning labels just made us even more curious . Born in 72. Great video.

Your intro writing on this one is well done. Many of your work is top notch but i can only watch and comment on one video at a time

As someone who loves watching people explore abandon buildings I find it hilarious that common graffiti for abandon buildings were part of the Satanic Panic. I knew about the whole music and D&D portion don't get me wrong and being a young millennial I remember some from my childhood (born 96 ) but thats the craziest thing I have heard if I'm honest
