I’ve had a thought for a while that all the “boring stuff” Andy’s friends give him was Buzz Lightyear themed. One kid gets him blankets and the next minute he’s replaced his cowboy blankets with a Buzz Lightyear blanket. It probably gave his mom a chance to clean and pack his normal sheets as she prepared for the move too. But I don’t think that she decided to buy him new stuff (except for Buzz himself and the treats and decor at the birthday party) just before a big move.

I wonder if they included a cameo of Cid in Toy Story 3 as a young adult, living happily as a trash guy and listening to heavy metal just to alleviate fan worries that he was institutionalized

According to Jim Henson's The Christmas Toy (which Toy Story rips its entire premise from) when a toy is caught out of place it becomes frozen in time in a state of permanent dark cold stillness reminescent of death … the toys friends forced to play with human children while discarded corpses are piled up nearby …unplayed with and forgotten … dead wooden or plastic eyes staring …judging… Mew you were done so wrong by Rugby you poor little cat toy….. but not you Ditz, you creepy ass clown, you made your choices….

So to everyone from 1986 that was traumatized by this movie over and over again, year after year.. remember you will always be replaced by the next best thing (that was the lesson of the movie right? ..right?) … Merry Christmas (god this explains so much about my generation).

After 30 years this is the movie that redefined animation for years to come thanks to PIXAR studios. It still looks great to this day.
Steve Jobs actually bought Lucasfilm's computer division in 1986 turning it into the stand-alone company. Although it was rough recovering from selling off the assets due to George Lucas' divorce in 1983.
It has such an incredible premise with children's playthings coming to life.
My first introduction to Randy Newman's music. It’s also Tom Hanks and Tim Allen's most recognizable roles.
It also holds really important lessons about sharing the ones we love, learning to be less selfish, jealousy, neglect, abandonment, friendship, finding value in each other even if it fades, and fear of being tossed aside for something else.
Terrific themes of existentialism self-worth, heck there might even be biblical ties to Cain and Able. You could also apply the terrifying fear of being loved and being replaced and disposed of to the current gig economy, acknowledging the existence of failure.
The shattered illusion when Buzz realizes he's just a toy is pretty heavy.
I remember having several of the movie licensed toys, the read along and the Gameboy game. Heck there actually weren't any real-life brands in the movie and all the movies have no set time period which helps give them a timeless feel.
It is amazing that the series gave birth to a tv show, animated shorts, and specials.
The movie is still a classic to this day thanks to likeable characters, smart humor, and a good story.
Some might find Randy Newman aggressively generic though when it comes to his songs saying they sound the same over and over and over again.
A lot of the dialogue has a lot of Seinfeld vibes.
The CGI with this and Casper knew how to be expressive with the facial expressions with their characters.
But the humans and the animals don’t look that good, yet this was still early stages of CGI animation.
Plus Sid’s toys are imaginatively creative despite being like freaks of nature.
Overall this works so well being timeless, thrives on being a simple story with strong writing, characters are easy to like, a majority of jokes still work, and the world created is fun to explore.

    A 5/5
