Toxic Labels: What is Behind Cheap Clothes | Textile Industry | Fashion | ENDEVR Documentary

ENDEVR | March 8, 2026

Toxic Labels: What is Behind Cheap Clothes | Textile Industry | Fashion | Investigative documentary from 2012

The documentary Toxic Labels investigate what is behind the cheap clothes sold by multinational companies. From the exploitation of children and workers to forcing laborers to work in dangerous conditions and violating local and international laws, it seems many manufacturers are still reliant on sweatshop models of production. In this exclusive investigation, we access the sweatshops of Bangladesh, where girls like 12-year-old Khadija work 60 hour weeks. We film inside the factories and speak to the workers.

OMG This abuse of children's labor continues yet no indep6 body monitors this criminal act. The management of these garments along with the clothing supplier should be made financially accountable to these poor innocent children and the public must stop buying these clothes 😢

I try to only buy when I need stuff, but sometimes I feel like getting something new, but it has to be second-hand. If I need something and cannot find it used, then I will try to get it from a fair trade, organic company. I do not want explotation of humans, the planets and also not animals, so no animal (by)products.

Did they get in trouble for speaking in this documentary?

I am still watching, maybe it is said somewhere, but would boycotting these brands help the people in any way? Would they not lose their jobs? Or maybe the boycotting would make the companies realise that they have to change if they want to make money.

i would totally love to live in a shack in a shanty town on the wrong side of the tracks. i think its honorable that they are working to support their families and they have self pride. they don't seem like they complain about working 12 hr days 6 days a week. commendable.

These Western Countries are always exploiting and they pretend they don't know. It is in their DNA right from colonization. Any country considered wise and they cannot exploit, they brand them and give them names so they can destroy them……

Watching this while making my own textile items. Can only recommend learning to make things for yourself, not to replace your wardrobe (sure, you could, if you have enough time) – just to understand how highly skilled these workers are who can barely survive

This is why corporations are so gross..there is no accountability..they run like a psychopath..compartmentalizing all the damage they do.

When you are poor..you take what^s there…do not compare coz you want cheap goods but companies need to make money too.
I worked in EU ..and yes money was good but take into account rentals that take almost half your salary and wifi electric water and HEATING not to mention your monthly transport fees..add that up and am sure if you're alone even married with net incomes of 1500 each its just in survival mode so c'mon.

I know you feel you are doing something good but making people lose and quit there jobs are not a good thing. Work with the companies to enforce better conditions like better working hours and a respirator for all sand blasters. And any other bad conditions. You can not just wreak someones life with a film and run.

Amazing video with unrivaled research! I have a new appreciation of labels on garments. Can you suggest clothing manufacturers that don't have this much of a devious approach to maintain their high profit margins? Curious minds want to know…

all throws people that work in throws factory don t do it for hobby , if you don t work you don t eat , if the factory stop imploing illegal people .. throws people will no longer have to eat , if every employ is pay 3-4000 per month like workers in us or north europ , imagin how much will have to pay for a pair of jeans 100-500 euro , and werry few will be able to aford them , so for a retaler to sale you jeans for 20 euro retaler must buy it for 10 , factory must produce it for 1 in order for brand to make money on it .

Children working, even working long hours, is not a moral problem. It's just the way the world is and has always been. Instead we need to look at the great progress being made as the countries become richer and more and more parents can allow themselves to send their kids to school for longer and longer.

I hope they did not make that poor girl lose her job and if they did I hope they paid her mother to help the house. He comes to threaten people. I hope you helped them with that goon.

Thank you for making this film. I think more and more people should be aware of the cost of cheap fast fashion.
As of myself, I remember buying H&M clothes ones – putting them on few times and then throwing away because of poor quality. From that time I learned a lesson – we are not that rich to afford cheap one-time-wearible clothes. I invest in quality and I wear that clothing several years with great quality.
I have few Zara pieces – but I chose them carefully and a have been wearing them for years, they were not cheap in fact. Having watched this film I have no desire shopping at Zara again.

People in Africa are crying out for this jobs you call exploitation, because they need life basic needs, and they know nothing about labour laws.

What excellent ground-level journalism. Wish Indian Mainstream media takes the same initiative to talk on these points than running behind political and Page 3 stories.

Poor people involved in making these discounted clothes are more intelligent and interesting than the goons gobbling up fast fashion
