SLACK! : NOSTALGIA

This TV is Frickin’ HUGE | Nostalgia Nerd

Nostalgia Nerd | February 17, 2026

I’d love it if you could come and join me at Game On on the 29th/30th March https://nnerd.es/GameOn ~ CRTs have always been special. That comforting glow late into the night, you can’t quite beat it. So, it’s about time we took a look at the biggest consumer CRT TV to ever grace our shores; The Toshiba 3787DB. At a whopping 37″, it’s vast, and it’s currently sitting in the corner of Barcadia. So let’s take a look, and see how vast this thing really is.

Also, apologies to anyone who is genuinely put out by high pitched Flyback transformer sounds. I can’t actually hear them anymore 😭😭😭

We had this model of Toshiba in the 33 inch model. My parents bought it in 99!!!!!! From Homeworld Coventry, they ordered it in the shop and had it delivered to their house when they were living in Peterborough. It wasnt cheap!!!! We eventually gave it to my great grandad and it worked for 15 years without fail. I had it switched on at his house on a Saturday afternoon while seeing him. My grandad and great grandad always asked me, Luke, Do you want the Toshiba on? I would always say yes as it was my very first TV set. This was the best TV we ever owned as a family.

I need one but they're bloody expensive and if I'm paying that price last thing I want is for so,e dodgy delivery man to smash the screen or corrupt the transmitter

Ok… lemme say something… the American SNES could natively output RGB via those CHONKY BNC cables and it looks absolutely fucking incredible when used right. But in the UK and Europe, sadly those don’t support RGB unless modded. Just thought I’d point it out

Honestly I was relieved when LCD/TFT screens came down in price, they used to be a lot more expensive than CRT's.

Growing up my parents told us to stay away from the TV because it gave off radiations that was bad, and the sound they made when you turned them on certainly made it believable. So when LCD's came down in price enough, I snapped them up because they were seen as safer than CRT's.

I don't know if CRT screens released any harmful radiation though, my parents had me believe that it was bad.

The TV I remembered was a 24 inch Sony Trinitron TV. Good TV, really large, but it was the price you paid for a large TV.

Now everyone has 70 inch TV's.
