The only thing the "private donors" paid for were overpriced plaques saying they donated money for overpriced plaques… Trump pocketed the money, and now the "ballroom" that needs to be build around said plaques will have to be paid for by the taxpayer…and I for some reason expect THAT money to disappear as well without any trace…

This will change nothing. Trump lies so much and so often, it's been fully normalized now. I wish this would actually derail the whole ballroom thing, but it almost certainly won't make a bit of difference.

Well, Trump made a verbal agreement, a commitment where he declared over and over that not one taxpayer dollar would be used to fund the ballroom. He stated clearly that the ballroom would be fully funded by his donors and Donald Trump, himself.
So, I believe we, the people of the United States, need to take a hardline stance on the ballroom, and make him honor his commitment.
Trump can honor his commitments by paying for all costs that exceed the sum of the accepted donations himself. He can use some of the grifting dollars he's taken in since he was inaugurated.
