This Is How Trump Will Destroy His Own Goons | Inside Trump’s Head

The Daily Beast | July 4, 2026

Michael Wolff and Joanna Coles break down why the political winds may finally be shifting against Donald Trump, and what Michael believes is the single psychological factor that could determine whether his presidency survives the coming midterms. They examine the fallout from Trump’s strikes on Iran, the political gamble of rising gas prices, the increasingly competitive Senate map in Texas and Maine, and why Republicans could suddenly find themselves defending territory they once took for granted. Along the way, they explore the Democratic Party’s uncertain strategy, Elon Musk’s lingering political influence, and whether Trump has any path back if Republicans suffer the kind of losses Wolff predicts, before closing with a revealing look inside how Trump is likely to react if the election becomes the biggest setback of his political career.

    Yeah no!! So annoying.
Please push back against Michael. Susan Collins votes with Trump consistently unless it doesn’t matter.
Stop bashing the dems. They have won a few elections before. They’re not all losers.

    A hand casting a ballot.
The Electoral Count Act (ECA) governs the casting and counting of electoral votes for president and vice president every four years. The statute sets the timeline for states to appoint presidential electors in November and for electors to cast their votes in December, and describes the process that Congress should follow when it counts the states’ electoral votes in January. Originally enacted in 1887, the statute remained largely the same for well over a century and was badly in need of an update. It included antiquated and ambiguous language, and failed to offer clear guidance on key aspects of the process of counting electoral votes and resolving related disputes — weaknesses that rendered the statute open to misunderstanding or exploitation, and risked the peaceful transitions of power that have been a hallmark of our democracy.

Michael Wolff sounds like a great example of an old boomer who wants to see the political landscape remain more or less the same as it's been his entire life and is freaked out by the idea of new, fresh faces coming into power who have personal backgrounds and views on America's future that are different from the politicians that he's familiar with. He's old and doesn't like that things are changing. Get outta the way, man….

Why do the Democrats keeping screwing it up? Because people like you keep bitching about everything they do. They've tried to take the high road. I hope this time they take no prisoners, partly just to shut people like you up.

People want candidates that know what the people want. I think it's wonderful for a candidate to know that and not be a liar. Too many experienced politicians are liars. Having new blood is wonderful! They will get on the job training. People get experience by doing! I don't think people want the so called, know how to work the system in the diabolical way, politicians! We want people who actually care.

Joanna Coles has cradled 3 of her own flesh & blood created in her womb, so how cud Joanna Coles, good conscience favour abortion. Most women in long term affairs shud wear protection; rarely does a woman get pregnant in one night stand unless the male is ultra virile

When Mr. Wolf says the being a helicopter pilot has no crossover with being in Congress, think back to when all of those ancient senators and representatives started and where they came from. Most came from unrelated fields. John McCain was military pilot which based on Mr. Wolf's thinking had no crossover. Being in Congress requires a curious intellect and good character to stick to what you believe in and promised but know when it's time to compromise. It requires a very thick skin and a willingness to dish it out when needed. It requires the energy to stay engaged and run a campaign almost all of the time. And you need a lot of suits because wearing a sweatshirt on the floor of either house of Congress is just not respectful of the institution or the people you represent.

The centrist Dems are not the future. Ol folks need to step aside. I'm 68 I won't vote for the so called moderates. Do nothings. Climate catastrophe , Gaza, people who can't afford housing – enough! You all are not speaking to the majority of unaffiliated votes who do not support either party. Let them both parties call us communists – go ahead. We will not go back.

Joanna, Michael has become tedious. He’s a writer not a political theorist. His specialty is having hung intimately with Trump for years. It’s tedious. Make it stop

Also, I think the best Congress people, Whitehouse, Raskin, Sanders and some others should support and guide the new young Dem Socialists that WILL win…. Then we have strength to change this horrible mess we are in. 🖖

Michael, you sound like you're suffering from dementia just like Trump. You interrupt constantly, you don't listen, you stumble and stammer over your own words, you can't put a coherent thought together and you're dismissive ("no"). Poor Joanna. Take a cognitive test. You should stick to writing where you have a team of editors and ghost writers. You are VERY hard to watch and listen to. I'm actually embarrassed when I watch you. Sorry, just my observations.

Thank you, Joanna, for pointing out that Michael Wolff is one of the rich people who should pay more taxes! Or maybe he wants to launch another GoFundMe? Also, why is he attacking Molly Jong Fast – that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Michael is unaware of the importance of the new Democratic Socialism movement. As a Republican, he admires the "professionalism" of Susan Collins in Maine because she has voted almost 100% with Donald Trump and the Republicans. He wants only incumbents to be reelected.

I watch this regularly and Michael is the most irritating speaker ,a verbal bully and very unlikeable . I never watch far , turning off when the rude overspeaking starts . Watching from the Southern Hemisphere to try to learn what is going on in the world but compared to other very enlightening guests ,this man is just another opinionated bully . From the outside looking in ,just another person actually perpetuating the view the world has of " loud bully American "

Looney bin? I've learned something new about Michael Wolfe. His hard-headedness, which I sometimes enjoy, I see now includes an unsympathetic and ignorant attitude toward a group of people who suffer.

  16. @TalonedDove

    July 4, 2026 at 10:47 pm

Could Michael be any more scurrilous? He’s in a very bad mood today as he’s very contentious and argumentative. Sometimes I think Joanna outta give him a quick slap. 😢

I’m really worried I’ll be devastated at the mid terms. MAGA comes through and allows him to bury us. I’m 78 and I have never seen a more irresponsible self absorbed human being. Using his power to enrich himself and destroy all that is good about America.
