Things You Only Notice In Starship Troopers As An Adult

Looper | November 24, 2025

A satirical slap in Heinlein’s face, a love triangle that doesn’t exist, and a seriously gutting “happy” ending. Maybe the bugs were the real heroes after all.

Fun, fun, fun fact: A bunch of actresses voiced that they were really uncomfortable having to be completely naked during the coed shower scene, so to break the tension and make it less awkward, Paul Verhoeven striped down and directed the scene naked. Mission accomplished no doubt😂😂😂

Lets be real though guys. The line at the beginning of the movie "Violence is the supreme authority under which all other authority is derrived" is one of the most based statements of all time. Everyone has to remember it, no matter how much we wish it isnt true. You cant protect against that reality if you pretend it doesnt exist.

Am I the only one who thinks the point of Denise Richards character is that she was taught to prioritize service to the state over her personal life? I never got strong independanr vibes from that character.

The most funny thing of this film which was made supposedly as a satire is that most of the audience by-passed the satire, watched it unapologetically and were rather charmed by the fascist aesthetics as well as the political organization shown, i.e. that only people who enlisted in the army were considered citizens and had voting rights. People may ignore it but true Democracy in its original format as ancient Greeks had encapsulated it, was all about that : soldiers voting (well it was more than that, they were voting on decisions, not just electing people). There is a reason that today several people use Starship Troopers as a positive image, completely unapologetically, even adopting the "fascist" title (without really harking back to 1930s historical fascism), as a means to counter "progressivism", "socialism" and ironically even "feminism" (though the fascist society in Startship Troopers happens also to be perfectly feminist as well.

Sooo this is the universe if Hitler and the nazis won WW2 and conquered the whole world together and than in the future nazis made fast space rockets and than decided to colonize other planets and this happened and Rico is a perfect Aryan .

Edit: F i now realized they speak English my theory wrong.

Where did you get the idea that the bugs were the victims? Nothing in the book about that. And nothing in the movie about that. And of course the brain bug is going to be scared. It was just captured by it's enemy. Just as a human is scared when they become a POW no matter whether they fight on the 'right side' or the 'wrong side'

As far as I recall, in the movie there are only two clues as to what kind of society they have: the fact that “citizenship” is restricted, and the idea that having a child requires a license.
