The Working Class Uprising They Don’t Teach You About

PBS Origins | May 27, 2026

In the 1760s, powerful men in the American colonies were in danger. The working class people beneath them were sick of the corruption and bullying, and were ready to rebel. All they needed was a ferocious leader willing to take on the fight. Herman Husband was an enigma. Though a pacifist at heart, his fiery spirit and passion for justice led him into violent uprisings.

About Rogue History
It’s been said that history is written by those in power. But what about the outlaws, outcasts, and rogues? What if they had their say? Rogue History, a digital series produced by PBS Digital Studios and PBS North Carolina, shakes the dust off the history books to unravel myths, unearth narratives, and discover fresh perspectives.

These were more rebellions against the government and taxes that against "the rich"

In my opinion, the thumbnail of this video tries to show that these rebellions were for ideas that really were not, in order to trick people into clicking, and then having other say "hey, look they had the same beliefs as me"

Fascinating story. Funnu how the corrupt officials response to being challenged was never hmmm maybe let's dial back on corruption for a minute nit rather let us exercise our monopoly on violence against the movement. The more things change the more they stay the same

Literally what Trump is doing right now with Farmers all over the country while Vance and his cronies buy up family farms, and Trump builds tacky ballrooms and "triumphal" arches

This is crap I'm reporting this series to congress. America was under British rule before 1780's and anything before that was BRITISH RULE

He was going to do something himself, whether it was suicidal or not, and then Tuscape Death. I could use some of that riot violence, i woudn't mind some tar and feathers for Monsanto's Round Up distributors.

Thank you for telling us about this. Rich people want to suppress this kind of history. The situation improved until the 1970's and since then had deteriorated drastically

Professional politicians are corrupt. Independent politicians (The third party), the labor movement and veterans need to form a government that gives us a new path 💚Joe Hill 💚Smedley Darlington Butler 💚Martin Luther King Jr.👍 Victory 🤟 Love you all

America is a civil oligarchy. I could easily lead the revolution, but I'm leaving the U.S. asap. I'm not dying in a concrete closet that is Supermax. 50 shades of F that. Besides, it seems to me most Americans want rich people in charge of the legal system. So let them suffer with that choice.
