Minority Report anticipates Christopher Nolan (Inception, Interstellar) by offering, slyly, alternative endings to the movie. The film has its traditional Hollywood happy ending, but also a shadow, dystopian alternative.

In the Hollywood ending, after Anderton is imprisoned and placed into deep sleep, his ex-wife realises his innocence, succeeds against incredible odds in rescuing him, allowing him miraculously to prove his innocence to the world and set things right. In the dystopian alternative, Anderton is imprisoned and, well, that's it. The remainder of the film is foreshadowed by his jailor, who speculates that his prisoners probably spend the rest of their lives dreaming that someone will realise their innocence, succeed against incredible odds in rescuing them, etc. This alternative is, arguably, much closer to the conclusion of the original novella.

Which is the more satisfying ending? I would guess it depends on what colour you prefer your noir.

Minority Report and Ready Player One could be the same universe. What other Spielberg movies do you think would fit in to that universe?

"… reverberated with tangibility and grit." Well put! Green screen productions often feature actors turning blank faces toward computer-generated monsters, which is utterly implausible. Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds suffers from (let's call it) Blank Face Syndrome, where our favorite action hero turns to stare blankly at the Martian horror that just emerged from the ground.
