The TRAGIC History of Stone Temple Pilots “Interstate Love Song”
“Interstate Love Song” by Stone Temple Pilots is a story of deception, of heartache, and of addiction. This is the history of the song off the band’s 1994 album Purple, and how it reflected the inner struggles of frontman Scott Weiland.

I remember all the undeserved flack they caught for being so-called Pearl Jam copycats.
STP was as real as any rockers that ever were. These guys were my first real rock concert ever, and it was fabulous. 💙

1.)This video doesn't give Scott Weiland enough credit for writing the lyrics. Which he did for 99.9% of all STP songs, as well as his work on the melodies too. 2.) 6:22 in the video, there's a clip about Scott's band mates firing him to "play music" & "make records". When that is a flat out lie. STP got back together for money in 2008. Touring non-stop took a toll on Scott's body, vocals, and addictions; but his band mates didn't want to lose out on that touring money, so they used Scott's addictions to force him out of the band. Scott was the front man, wrote all the lyrics, and sang every song. So when his band mates say it's about "playing music" or "making records", that's a LIE. It was purely about money & the STP brand. They fired Brendan O'Brien (the honorary 5th member of STP) who produced every STP album up to that point, so they could save money. These guys could have started another band, or anything else. But since all their other bands failed without Scott, they knew their only success was with the STP brand. That's when they hired Chester Bennington, who they ended up driving away as well! Then after driving away TWO talented singers, they hired a lesser known singer to dress up like Scott, sing the hits, and tour under the name "Stone Temple Pilots", when in fact that band died a long time ago. This new "STP" is just a bad nostalgia act at this point. And that's the TRAGIC history of STP.

Dean DeLeo is kinda a douche. Like sorry, STP would have been nothing without Scott. Dean talked so much crap about Scott and was the person Scott clashed with the most. Dean thought it was his band, and that terrible junkie Scott ruined everything. Um no, Scott made the band, and come to find oit Dean DeLeo was also a junkie, cokehead, alcoholic who beat his wife. STP tried with other singers, ok Chester was alright, but they formed a band with singer from Filter nobody cared, nobody cares about new stp with jeff gutt doing a scott Weiland impersonation, and they also did some other band with another singer in the 90s and it sucked. While Scott brought Velbet Revolver up to the biggest band in the world when they started. Scott's solo stuff was Good, his side bands like The Magnificent Bastards were awesome and super band The Wondergirls with Lead singer of Orgy, his friend Ashley Hamilton, and lile bass player from Orgy a guitar player from queens of the stone age,and Jared Letos brother from 30 Second to Mars, the songs they released back in like 99 or 01 were so good.

I'd listen to Purple in the late 90s once a week. I'd put on a puppet show outside the walled in porch for whoever passed by. Most dug it. 90s fun. STP were fun and a little creepy. The 90s are guilty of more than an over flow of magic. Nice one, PW.

Will never forget meeting Scott (sort of) at the Soaring Eagle hotel back when he was there with VR during the Contraband tour (2005 or 2006ish).
Scott was waiting at the end of the check-in desk with a woman he was with (maybe Mary?) and they were both just kinda just taking quietly and laughing. I wasn't 100% sure if it was him so I walked up to say hi.
..Then this big dude immediately stepped out in front of me and said, "It's not him, keep moving". Scott looked up, smiled, and said, "It's cool man" but the guy didn't budge. Scott looked back at me, shrugged, then went back to talking to the woman.
We did get to actually meet and talk to Slash, Duff, and Dave Kushner for a few mins that same day. They didn't have any security with them, Duff and Dave were waiting for an elevator and Slash was sitting at the little hotel bar with some guy that was filling in for Matt Sorum. The whole day was so surreal and awesome, even won enough money at the roulette table to pay for the weekend. Good times. 😊

They were considered a clone or pearl jam or aic band and not just grunge clone and that is what they got Co. Parrions to, mumbling I suppose could be considered like pearl jam, but sounded far more like AIC.

Just discovered you and this mere moments ago. Great share and done with a dynamic delivery !!
I feel it goes, far too often, a more untouched (in conversation) observation. How much the album flirts with an almost psychedelic flavour at points. A huge vibe and sound from this album. Even the array of trippy intros scattered about. It's flattened, abso-fuckin-lutely smothered any 'sub par grunge copy cats' label. Songs like Lounge Fly, third song in after a whopper riff on Meat Plow, then a needle point bluesy punk speedball that beacons the open road.
Lounge Fly is trippy. I can't help, every time I listen to Purple, it's wild how many psyche touches are throughout this whole album. In the big canon of 90s grunge bands, of the "big 10" this one for STP really gave them their own uniqueness and they always flirted with it after. Tiny Music…. ? The DeLeo duo really penned great songs that showcased all their influences so perfectly subtle and Purple is a gem for its production helping the details shine.
