With both number four and number five, I was thinking, “WTH? I’ve never heard this before.” Apparently, Todd hadn’t, either.

I liked Bryan Adams when he first came out, but had left him behind by about ‘84. The song here made me cringe when I first heard it. I got my then-fiancé to change the station and avoided it as much as possible. Then, multiple people told me I should use it for our first dance at our wedding.

Also, I’m in Vancouver, and Bryan Adams appears to have always been a dick.

I covered an acoustic version of Run to You and had it on YouTube and TikTok. Sure enough, it was removed from every platform. Not copyright noted, not asked to shorten for YouTube shorts. Gone forever. It was a totally different rendition too. F**k you Bryan Adams indeed.

I knew One More Try was a thing and didn't mind it too much… I thought it was a black guy that sung it though. Must be a trend in 1991, and also a vestige of the 80's easy listening stuff my Mom liked

Sadly, I do remember "One More Try", though I have no info on Timmy T. It was just on the radio All. The. Time. in 1991. My guess is, some middle-aged (at the time) music directors missed the schlock from 10 years prior known as Yacht Rock, and propelled this cheap imitation of an already shoddy product onto the airwaves. Next, indeed.

As someone who graduated High School in 1991 I remember all of these. I love schmaltzy music, so Stevie and Timmy were right up my alley. My dad was really religious after he divorced my mom, so he introduced me to Michael W Smith and I still listen to him to this day even though I haven’t been in a church in years. As for the Bryan Adams, that was my ex wife who was also my high school sweetheart and I’s song. We’re long divorced now, but when I saw them making fun of it on Family Guy. I lost it!

Me, a sicko, as Bryan Adams come up on the screen: YESSS YESSS this song is the worst!!!

Not only was it the number one song of 1991, it was my 8th grade dance theme. They had t-shirts made that had the title of the song on them. Uuggggggh. And I LIKED Bryan Adams. But not this song.

My theory on why the song is terrible is because it's in the key of C and it's relentlessly plain. The lyrics are boring too.

Not to defend From A Distance because I agree it's a terrible song, but I think it's a lot simpler than you're making it out to be. It's an anti-war song. There was the first Gulf War in 1991 and Operation Desert Shield prior to that, and while Desert Storm was generally popular with voters there WAS some discord against it, it's just what debate there was tends to be forgotten with how quickly it went. (I forget which stand up comic said this, but the line was "We were afraid it was gonna be another Vietnam, it wasn't even another Woodstock!") So the song is saying, "From a distance, there's no reason for us to be fighting." It is still awful tho.

Similarly I'm like 90% sure that that line in Justify My Love is about masturbation.

I was 10 when that Bryan Adams dreck came out and was played on MTV ad nauseum, while I waited for R.E.M. videos. Thank you for unlocking a terrible core memory of my youth. I LOATHED that song and video so much.

I seem to be the only one who doesn't have such a strong reaction to Bryan Adams. Sure, the guy might be a knob in real life but I see nothing wrong with that song, it's okay. And it's not because I don't remember it, I was there when it came out and was played constantly on MTV and radio, but it's just inoffensive to me.

I feel so vindicated by that #1. Hated it when it came out and was constantly everywhere, blaring his shit voice and shit words in my ears. I sang my own lyrics :Everytime I poo, I do it for you", since that's implied by his words. Also was the first Adams song I heard, so I hate it every time I hear his voice.
