    We, as humans, tend to take for granted so many things around us that at times we lose sight of the fact that we all are going to die some day and our existence is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But in difficult times when we are stripped down bare, there are these quiet moments of realisations we tend to have epiphanies that are only ours.

    I have been following the Pursuit Of Wonder for a year and half now and I genuinely enjoy gaining these perspectives that are written and narrated so beautifully. This video, among so many others, felt deeply profound and reminded me once again of some of the existential and universal truths about the human condition that we all lose sight of from time to time. I have been struggling with a lot of personal issues and internal strife these last couple of weeks where so many things in my life made no sense. Thank you for this video, it helped me get some clarity about where I am in my life.

    My father was murdered by one of his tenants in November of last year. The event was so absurd and so unfathomable and so horrific it will affect reality for generations to come. Yet not impossible.. the world is so unpredictable yet predictable in the broadest sense.

    I was hiking with my dog and an old try fell on me. I was injured badly but made a full recovery. The chances of that happening were something like 1 in a million. I think the most about how I could have just died instantly and never had any idea what happend had things gone differently. Enjoy each day because we really REALLY don't know which one will be our last.

    You will not remember your death. You may never truly remember when and how we die. Consciousness just keeps respawning in the same life same decisions same outcomes. You just don’t remember how you died because this the infinite’th time you have been here. This is truly a simulation. Only afterlife is the same life which is this life. In this context , there is no past no future .. just now !

    Everyone wants money but no one wants to talk about the real enemy. No discipline. No self-control. Endless scrolling, cheap dopamine, wasted days. I lived there. Comfortably stuck. What Elites Hide From You by Jeff Rogan was the first thing that made me realize I wasn’t blocked by life, I was hiding from it.

    And people waste their life thinking so special for an afterlife. Like they believed in thousands of gods while the Bible was written and the devil wasn’t even first Bible. Live life have fun stop judging. Like holy people are so dumb

    The realization at 08:22 that we are the legacy of 15 billion years of cosmic evolution is breathtaking. We worry so much about daily stress, yet the mere fact that we exist to experience that stress is a statistical miracle. I’ve started using this exact thought to anchor my mornings. Whenever I feel overwhelmed right after waking up, I remind myself: 'I survived a quadrillion-to-one odds just to be here.' The entire perspective of the day changes.

    What the video doesn't name is the quietly vertiginous implication of its own final calculation. It builds this magnificent case for the absurd improbability of existence — the quadrillion-to-one odds, the billion-year chain, the precisely calibrated constants of the universe — and then lands on the observation that despite all of this, your odds of existing right now are 100%. Which is technically correct and also completely useless as comfort, because the version of you that didn't make it through the quadrillion-to-one filter isn't somewhere feeling disappointed about it. Every possible arrangement of matter that never coalesced into a conscious being is not currently lying awake wishing things had gone differently. The only entities capable of appreciating the miracle of existence are the ones who already exist, which means the sample is entirely self-selected and the statistics are doing considerably less work than they appear to be. We are not the winners of a cosmic lottery. We are simply the only ones who showed up to collect.

    I always used to worry about finding a good career, and then I regretted never finding a career. I just went through my working years on short dead end entry level jobs. I was washing dishes on my 50th birthday in spite of being chef had a renowned French restaurant when I was 25.

    Now that I'm in my late 70s, I look back and think that I'm kind of glad I didn't have a career. All the stuff we do in our lives, for a little while, and then it's all over. So why bother building a big castle?

    The answer, of course is for those who live on after you. For future generations. And when I look around the world, and see all the stuff that I use, that is part of my life, that I had no part in creating, I think that's a pretty noble goal.

    Do something, make the world a little better for those who will be around when you're gone.

    Something – something when old men plant trees knowing they will never enjoy their shade.

    Couple thoughts on the matter —

    1) It depends on how you look at it, either from a practical or theoretical standpoint — but from a purely theoretical standpoint I suspect there HAS to be a "horizon" of sorts after which your personal genealogical history doesn't matter. Meaning 50 forefathers pre-ceeding you — if ONE of them were swapped with another, would you still be you? 100 forefathers? 1000? At some point it can't matter. One person's contribution cannot determine who a person is 10,000 years from now. And what that number specifically is, is a guess. But I suspect it exists.

    2) As grand as you make all this sound — the absurdity of the improbability of existence — the cure to being terrified of dying is only considering the alternative — what would it be like to be condemned to live on this planet… with… the others… for all eternity. Never being able to get away from them. That sounds like the definition of hell to me. Death is an escape and a final relief from a temporary inconvenience.
