At least for me, Eminem was one of my first exposures to the darker side of rap at about 9 years old when Slim Shady LP came out. If it wasn't for Em, I probably would never have delved into the Canibus's, the Wutangs, the Aesop Rocks, the El-Ps, Gravediggaz, Jedi Mind Tricks and countless other artists I grew to love. To say El-P was influential is an understatement, but to say Eminem was not that influential on rappers and rap music is a bit of a stretch. He is a legend, love him or hate him.

I can see the take on content matter, but if you're talking about all around MC from the craft of lyricism, storytelling ability, freestyle ability, battle ability, and overall impact. Eminem is still at the top of "white rapper" list.
It's not even up for discussion, Eminem's run from 1999-2004/2005 with his own solo projects, to the success of D-12, 8 Mile, producing hits for himself and other artists.
That run was unparalleled and was undeniable.

In my opinion it’s Mac Miller for me. But I can see why he says El-P. For me though, Mac was such a student of the game, he was creative af, great producer and had a never ending supply of flows and cadences.
