McKenna was and is a genius. Was he mildly broken by the psychedelics?…….Yes, but he was also WILDLY curious, imaginative, open, creative, perceptive, verbally skilled, and funny.

Of all the humans I've read about, and listened to, Terence is among the top, easily. I wish his brand of humble limitless seeking was more common. Until then i will continue to go to sleep nightly, listening to his talks.

Just a story and please, don't try this at home: My first time doing LSD, my wife was my trip sitter. She was sober, making sure I didn't have some sort of bad trip.

After it got late and still in the middle of my ride (to make a long story short), we started to make love and, without telling her,I decided try an experiment. The goal was to use a form of 'sex magic' I had previously read about (I've tried many occult practices. none worked. not a surprise, frankly) with the goal of communicating with her 'telepathically'. I wanted her to feel the experience I was feeling and I wanted us both to feel that feeling we had when we both first fell in love. a specific idea is supposed to be used…. the idea being that the more specific and simple the task, the easier it is to focus your intent on it.

The experience, for me, was intense and very visual. Obviously, I figured "cool for me" and assumed she didn't have any change in her experience.

She then proceeded to ask me "how I did that", described the exact feeling she had (which match the goal I had set identically) and asked if she was imaging me talking to her or if I was actually talking to her. I hadn't said anything….. just thought it.

Now, realistically and scientifically: cool story, bruh …..is the correct response. I can't prove this happened.

…my wife can't prove it anymore than I can, however…. I find it interesting that she had a psychedelic experience while sober.

again: I know, it's just a story and not proof of anything. that's fine though 👌 it's not meant to prove anything to anyone.

well done, brother. yet another great video and a particularly interesting addition alongside the more traditional, classic philosophers normally featured. as terrance McKenna fan I would just like to point out that his many wacky and even silly ideas have served me just as well as many more plausible explanations of our place in the universe. his ideas, even when they were wrong, always encouraged humans to treat each other with kindness and compassion and to take care of the environment (and its been fun hanging out with aliens too).

As a thinker and bard I love him. He was such an eloquent person and fully captivates every drop of your attention. Althrough he was a bit off on some of his theories I doubt there will be a more interesting mind to listen to in the psychadelic space.

in his book true hallucinations he claims he had never heard of or tried magic mushrooms till he went to the amazon rainforest and he was only there searching for something similar to ayahuasca but called yao way (i have nooo idea how to spell that that’s just how it sounds and i couldn’t find it with a quick google search but in his book he calls it that) and that’s when he discovered mushrooms, and at first he didn’t even think much of them till he got to another village and realized how abundant they were there and they ate a ton. he was a very fascinating man. true hallucinations is one of my favorite books ever

"Rarely do we find someone equally intellectually established and wide spread while willing to "get a little freaky on the side"" you don't read enough philosophy my friend, many are inspired by some sort of 'vice' but the biggest problem was America being an imperialist authoritarian nation that somehow convinced everyone it was free because it let's poor and powerless people complain without about the government without actually listening to them. If psychedelics we're to remain legal, studied properly and implemented universally and with evidence based practices rather than we could have potentially avoided the cold war and be living in the star trek future we all knew we could achieve back then but that false "freedom" America preaches which just means unregulated distructive capitalism we are more likely to imagine the end of humanity than a galaxy exploring super species that we have the potential to be

Great video. In fact, all your videos are very insightful and informative. McKenna is tangentially connected with someone it might be interesting to cover: William S. Burroughs. Not really a philosopher of course. but he had some interesting ideas about epistemology, which I think boil down to associationalism, hence his cut-up period. And there is his "reality studio" idea and his rather Romantic distrust of rationality.

In the book True Hallucinations (1994), McKenna explains that they weren't mixing mushrooms with Ayahuasca, but instead only one component of the Ayahuasca brew, the monoamine oxidase inhibitor Banisteriopsis caapi, which he supposedly smoked.

The idea what "life is weird" is exactly why i love this channel. So many philosophers and thinkers seeing the world in their own eyes all with different conclusions and theories. I do believe that the world is much more than just the ordinary that has been drilled into us. The whole "go to school, go to college, get a job, get married" pipeline is nothing more than a structure that many people are too scared to break since it's kinda the only life most know. There's people who believe that certain rocks have the power to suck up bad emotions and stuff, i've come to the conclusion that we're all our own worlds and that life is kinda this equal ground to share ideas and how we see things. Rocks with magic powers? I don't really see it but life is weird and it's real to others. It's like we're all radios that can pick up various frequencies, some pick up some and others don't. At least that how i've come to see things. Still trying to understand things y'know

Sorry guys. All those theories are simply … BULLSHIT. It is like looking at Picasso's paintings. Yeah, everyone is hyped about it but it is still BULLSHIT.
