The More Boring You Are, the More Impressive You’ll Become – The Paradox of Boredom

Pursuit of Wonder | August 10, 2026

Create a free professional website in minutes with @Odoo using my link: https://www.odoo.com/r/NaB. Thank you to Odoo for sponsoring this video.

In this video, we explore an inverted approach to success—precisionism. How can doing the opposite of what we’ve been told and assumed about success and happiness contribute to better achieving these things? How can we subtract from our life—instead of adding to it—to be more precise in obtaining what we truly value?

Some personalities love to be busy and doing things constantly. They are generally wealthy as well if they would be doing it either way. They are cut from a different cloth. I am not as ambitious but also not materialistic and I have what I need and owe nothing to anyone so I am happy as well.

My natural state is to live in this way. The few times in my life I have deviated from it, I have been much less happy. The vast majority of people that I interact with don’t even understand this way of living (I live in America), and were raised and conditioned to treat it as anathema. I don’t share this philosophy of minimalism and self-focused drive, because very few people I know (even my good friends) can relate to it. I think it’s a tragedy, because ultimately these people are not in control of their own lives, and have been conditioned to believe that they can’t be.

love your insight! and I love the fact that you are sponsored….however, my passion project is a web app, and I already have the backend finished, so it would be too additive to work with odoo…that is just my case in particular…

What if boredom isn’t a problem… but an invitation?

I've been exploring this lately. Instead of trying to escape it, I let it remind me that I'm free to give my full attention to whatever is right in front of me.

When I do that, and stop letting the mind wander the way it usually does, everything feels lighter. And strangely, a lot more satisfying.

While i was busy living enjoying my own company, i realised after a while i actually have no friends around me…forget few…those that are there are owing to proximity and not real connection. I do crave real connection at times

To me, being Jeff Bezos would be hell. Imagine trying to get a moment of peace of mind in solitude just going for a hike alone with no time table or next meeting to get to. He will never know that peace. Poor man. Tragic.

I learned this when I was young and I called it "Cutting down wires " 😂 . When I was 24 years old I told myself I'll make sure that I'll live a happy and satisfied life . So, I researched what made me sad and restless . Through my own judgment and experience and I found a simple trick which is "cutting down unnecessary wires of unhappiness" which affects me badly . I chose the wire which I can cut easily without harming myself then the wire which I want to cut but couldn't so limit the access. I also learned that There are some times where you can't do anything like losing something by accident, natural disasters, death or seeing someone in a deathbed, getting robbed etc which also affects you deeply and shaken your life but those things are not in your control all you have to do is "stay calm and endure your misfortune" . You can do it by giving yourself a reason like "God is punishing or Bad karma " etc .

Life is not difficult. We make it difficult for ourselves.
Boredom, is confused with a lack of activities.
Boredom is not the problem it's what you do afterwards that becomes the problem..
when you don't know what to do it is good to do nothing.

To do this act of removing what doesn't serve our purpose is so powerful. It helps reclaim agency over one's life. It's so useful, especially in this era of infinite distraction, to remove digital stimulation. That's why we forget to how to feel and process reality as it is, and not as we wish it to be.

Why is it that there is such a strong desire to want to have such declarative statements that are in fact and can both be true for example it is additive when you are growing and subtractive as you mature versus one or the other

The principal here is similar to a sound engineer setting EQ on input channels. Some engineers start boosting treble, mids, or bass because they think it sounds better. Combine all the channels and it's overloaded and sounds terrible. The secret is to cut frequencies, not to boost them. When you cut, you're boosting the remaining frequencies without increasing volume. The mix sounds better.

I disagree. I hate the modern concept of being "nonchalant" and "low-key not caring about anything."
You should try and care and be passionate about something and subject yourself to possible failure and embarrassment.

most comments on here focus on ‘having’ something sufficient (kids . romantic relationships . employment) instead of ‘being’, which is the experience of your children . spouce or work; if your attention is on having something you will always be essentially disconnected from it. personally I try to not want anything, including the not-wanting. this practice has led me to ‘see’ interesting things regarding what we call ‘reality’ .. my advice to others is – you shouldnt care about happiness, because its conditional and further it is made ever so small in direct proportion to its conditionality. happiness is a very small thing, this is why I dont want it. I rather achieve sovereignity, which is to be independent of and unaffected by everything, including what one would call the need to be physically alive .. this is what transcendance is ..

''How often do we agree to do things simply because we can, because we have the time'' Never, with the soul exception of when I'm romantically interested in someone, which honestly is probably still a mistake.

we must not forget the benefit of exploration and giving a chance to some new activities and ideas. I'm trying to phrase with myself how precisionism could conflict with exploration and what balance to have a fulfilling life. If anyone have an image of that I'd appreciate to read your thoughts
