I've only used qtips for two things:
– cleaning thermal paste from CPUs
– cleaning wounds
Never in a million years would I put them in my ears.

Always remember my brother putting one in his hear hole, and it came out bright red. (not a joke)

It's all about lawsuits – they don't want you to sue them after injury while using them for their actual purpose. It is the equivalent of a hypothetical nail scissor manufacturer saying, "Don't trim your nails with these as you might accidentally cut off your fingers".

I unfortunately used to do this as well mainly because it felt good, though that only worsened the itching and basically became addictive.
As weird as it sounds, I had either an infection or something similar where foul smelling fluid would ooze from my ears. Went away after some ear drops, thankfully. Never again.

One of my favorite parts of the day, and I do mean every single day, is putting one of those bad boys in my ear holes.

The trick is, don't try to clean the ears from the opposite ear (or any other orifice). Then they are relatively safe. 🙂
