We don't need a crops industry to fail before realizing good-agricultural-yield has migrated with climate change; not allowing land to flood, even making it impossible to flood is one major flaw; farmers are taking industrial-measures, doing what colonists did, & there's no way to succeed resisting every natural process; getting rid of water & pumping it back in; removing the surface & complaining about dust storms; scouring away top soil & bitching about fertility.

farming is bad at math. A crumpled piece of paper fits more surface area on less given range than a flat page occupies: imagine the waste of surface area every farm commits to every season; the future of agriculture has to reduce resource evaporation & sun-damage on tender crops; by making deep troughs, planting the walls, allowing the slope to shade damp-soil, multiplying the square footage by not being flat

Using technology we have now we could create a nutritionally balanced, sustainable, and affordable diet using a combination of genetically modified fungi, yeasts, algae, and other microbes. It would be boring and most likely dreadful to look at but it would keep us all alive.
