In October of 2008, a group of friends were kidnapped and held hostage in an apartment unit in São Paulo, Brazil. What transpired next would go on to become one of the most prolonged and shocking incidents ever captured on live television. This is the Eloá Pimentel hostage incident. Or, as it’s since come to be known, the darkest moment in television history.

Il fatto che l'avvocato sia andato in televisione a dire che un aggressore e la sua vittima si sarebbero "sposati" dopo una presa di ostaggi, assolvendo di fatto il rapitore da qualsiasi responsabilità sostenendo che fosse semplicemente innamorato, è sconvolgente.

They killed that poor baby. She was groomed, then stalked by her adult ex-boyfriend, thrown into a life threatening hostage situation where she spent 100+ hours in constant fear for her life, then was doomed by hundreds of apathetic adults who clearly had no care if she lived or died. Absolutely despicable.

This is disgusting. Each time, media comes around and mess everything up. So sadly reminds me of the Quirino Grandstand Siege in PH. I feel terrible for the family left behind.

why didnt the police use their authority to get rid of the news stations? isn't resisting orders from an officer illegal? and if they dont listen, give warnings of non lethal actions idk tear gas, riot control, etc.? to get rid of the news anchors because they are becoming a problem….?

This whole thing just had me thinking about how the fact this happened in a non-US country isn’t a sign of oh, the US is better” but rather “this shit is universal”.
Freedom of press is too strong if it can be prioritized over the safety of living, breathing people. This happens too much, and big media groups keep getting away with it and projecting blame onto everyone BUT themselves.
