Did the Astro phage change grace?
Is that why he survived the trip and the other two astronauts could not survive. Grace was exposed to the Astro phage during the birth of the 4th bacteria.

That's the official reason why the scene wasn't in the movie. The real reason is that they knew that putting climate change in any kind of positive light would have put them out of running for any movie awards.

What's controversial about nuking Antarctica if the alternative is to freeze to death even faster? The animals can be moved, the planet is getting colder anyway. It isn't solving the problem, it's just buying time for Project Hail Mary. The sun will still be dying.

Its a shame, because it has one of my favourite lines in the whole book from Stratt:
"Nonsense, Humanity has been accidentally causing global warming for a century. Let's see what we can do when we really set our minds to it."

Some of Rocky's best lines didn't make it into the movie: "Usually you not stupid. Why stupid, question?", "Good. Proud. I am scary space monster, you are leaky space blob.", "Fist me!" (I kinda figured that last one wouldn't make it in though, for obvious reasons).

So not a single person on the Looper team even read the book before making this video LMAO. Not only was Grace NOT the original plan, but bombing Antartica was not a "backup plan" whatoever. it was just another necessary part of the entire Project Hail Mary mission in order to increase global warming rapidly and give the earth more time before a full Ice age came.

Project Hail Mary is one of those amazing movies that would benefit from being a mini-series. Another one I remember is Annihilation.

The story is incredible and entertaining, beautiful action scenes and a lot of emotional moments but the ending felt a bit rushed. IMO it would be even better if it could take more time on worldbuilding and scientific details.

Read the book a month before seeing the film… really liked the film. LOVED the book.. obviously some things need to be cut for a film.. BUT… some stuff I felt didn’t need to be cut.. the entire beginning is more a paragraph version of what the book had. I was looking forward to him trying to figure out where he was and what was going on. In the film… he immediately sees he’s in space and knows where he is almost instantly..

    SPOILER ALERT

I’m disappointed but not surprised they cut out the entire scene/interactions between Grace and the other astronauts choosing their preference of how to end their lives once the mission is over. A big chunk of an entire chapter is dedicated to that situation and it really builds upon the gravity of the situation and would have made the impact of the karaoke scene more than what it felt for those who didn’t read the book. It rarely goes well when films tone things down or remove them entirely to remain pg-13

I so loved that scene. This guy is a climate scientist that has fought global warming for years. Now he is put in charge of a project to melt a big chunk of Antarctica to release methane into the atmosphere to warm the Earth on purpose. He is all FML about it.

Also all climate policy and CO2 mitigation is dropped and everyone can burn as much dirty oil and coal as they want. Yes they know respiratory illnesses will rise but it will make the Earth warmer.

It is so sad that the story destroyed itself because the ship would burn up in Adrian's atmosphere because it was using its engines as a heat shield and therefore was actually slowing down to fall from orbit. All the galaxy died because of a writing mistake

How about paving the entire Sahara desert with solar panels? They never emphasized enough the EFFORT it took to not only breed astrophage but also to enrich them. It's such an important point because if it wasn't an issue to charge them, then Grace would have been able to go home after no problem.

They cut that but felt they had time to put in the absolutely pointless bar scene? "Too complex to explain" is an utter bullshit reason. They managed to explain more complex stuff in the movie just fine.

The movie was great, but I think the ending was a bit abrupt…they could have put a bit more on (spoilers ahead)

him saving rocky, him reaching rockys planet, him living there etc etc
