Strengthening the Circle: Collaboration to Support Native Youth.

Association on American Indian Affairs | December 21, 2025

Despite a 75% decline in overall youth incarceration over 25 years, Native youth are 4x more likely to be detained than white peers and less likely to receive probation or diversion. In this webinar, hosted by The Association on American Indian Affairs in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, participants will:
Learn why identifying Native youth and engaging their Nations creates better outcomes
Hear about models of collaboration
Gain strategies for overcoming barriers and building effective partnerships
Learn how to ensure justice reform goals reach Native youth.

This webinar was moderated by the Association’s Next Generations Director, Kim Mettler, and featured Annie Brokenleg, former Coordinator for South Dakota’s State Juvenile Diversion and JDAI committees; Tamera Marshall, Diversion Coordinator for the Oglala Sioux Tribe; and Chantel Cloud, Tribal Court Judge and Tribal Court Collaboration Specialist.
